Beautiful Day - Fishing Rod Holder - Salmon - Mosquitos

Today was one of those overcast days.  The temperature stayed around 84 degrees and the sun kept fighting to get through the clouds.  It was beautiful enough outside to start cutting back the over grown trees in the garden area and at the side of the house.
It was also one of those days where you stripped down the beds and washed all the linens and towels in the house.  When I was bringing two of the clean blankets back into the house from the garage, I ended up not lifting my foot high enough to clear the step and fell hard into the door frame nearly breaking my arm.  I gave myself a very nice bruise.
Bulldog Man created a fishing rod holder to place on the wall above our furnace in the garage.  The fishing poles will be out of the way and available for easy access.  We looked at several fishing rod holders in town and the price varied from $20 - $40 dollars.  We both thought this was a bit ridiculous for something extremely simple to make.  Bulldog Man decided to make the rod holder himself costing him a whole 80 cents to create, 30 minutes of actual work time and overnight drying time for the glue.
Talk about fish, yes…..I baked salmon from Nova Scotia tonight with fresh citrus, cooked up sweet potatoes and cut up fresh pineapple for dinner.  Dinner was delicious and nice and light for the evening J
Tonight, the State of Oklahoma has issued an alert for all residence residing within the state for West Nile virus.  One woman has lost her life to the virus and 36 are in ICU at local hospitals infected with the virus.  All residence need to use mosquito spray with (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide)  aka: deet when outside.

  1. Sandy,

Love the fishing rod holder. Isn't it nice to have a handy husband?

Be careful walking & stepping! I bruised my elbow doing something very similar this past week. I used the door frame as a stop ... door frames are hard.

I hate deet but the virus could do more serious damage so take care & use when needed.

    1. DFW,
I love having a handy husband, you can tell them you want something made and they make it :-)
I need to be more careful when walking with my hands full. The door frame was a great stop however, my arm is really hurting tonight. If I am still in the same pain tomorrow, I will go to the ER.
Deet is not something I like using either.
      Have a great evening!

  2. Love the temp. We had similar weather in Virginia. Absolutely adore salmon although the pic of the west Nile carrying mosquito looks like it is infecting a nice pieces of sockeye which is not so appetizing.

    1. Girl, I sure do love this temperature, it beats 116 and dry. OMG....I didn't even think about the picture looking like the mosquito infecting the salmon. I just went back and looked at the picture and it does look like the mosquito is infecting the salmon (but he really isn't).

  4. dear Sweet Sandy - i sure do hope that your arm is ok!!! sorry i haven't been around but i caught up on all of your previous posts - our internet has been sketchy this past week! anyway, i love the rod holders, so does jambaloney, and i looooove the salmon - but then you already knew that - bahahahahahah! i hate chemicals and don't use any for cleaning or around the house or anything....but when it comes to mosquitoes the ONLY thing that works is deet. make sure to apply it liberally and then re-apply if you are out for more than a few hours a day. it sucks....but hey. also, if you get deer flies - rub yourself with a bounce sheet. i haven't used bounce for years, due to the chemicals, but it is the only thing that keeps deer flies away. please make sure to have your arm checked out ok? lots of love to you always.

    1. Sweet Kymber, My arm hurt like crazy last night, this morning it wasn't to bad. I'm sorry to hear your internet was giving you problems. We will make sure to use the deet spray because we don't want to be ill from mosquitos or in the hospital. Thank you for the information on the bounce sheets for deer flies.

  5. Sweet Sandy - i am so glad to hear that your arm isn't hurting so bad today...thank goodness! one other thing that i forgot to mention....if you find out at the end of the day that you got a lot of black flie bites, deer bites or mosquitoe bites....take a benadryl - it's and anti-histamine and will help if you have gotten too many bites. you will know if you have gotten bitten too much as the bites will swell after a few hours, you will be cranky, sore and tired. if that happens take a benadryl. and i don't even take aspirins or anything for headaches or sore muscles but when either me or jambaloney figure out that we have had too many bites - we take the benadryl. and you are very welcome, sweetheart!

    1. Thanks Kymber! We have plenty of benadryl stocked both liquid and pill form to last us many years. Lucky so far, the mosquitos haven't been bad for us in this part of Oklahoma. Funny you mention black flies. For the first time yesterday, I see a fly (some kind I had never seen), it was approximately 1 1/2 inches long. I really don't think it was a deer fly or horse fly. Looked like something different. We're going to be careful. Gosh.....it sounds like we're from another planet living in Oklahoma, lol....

    1. Jambaloney,

Thanks Jam, I like it too. Hubby did a great job and saves us money :-)
I surely don't want to get bit and contract West Nile. Too many people have been sick.
