A Death In My Family

I’m sorry for not posting or responding to your blogs. My husband flew out of town for work to Washington State on Monday, and Tuesday night my Mom was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.  I won’t go into detail about what happened at the hospital; in the end, Mom passed away on Wednesday at 12:07 AM. 

Many of you may not know what I’ve been dealing with for the last two years regarding my Mom.  I’ve been driving to Texas whenever possible to help my sister take care of our Mom, since the passing of Dad. 

Since the passing of my Dad, Mom hasn’t been well.  One week after Dad’s passing; Mom went into the hospital and had major surgery.  Preparing for this surgery, Mom was required to stop taking her blood thinner medication.  Note, the blood thinner medication was to help prevent her from having a stroke.  After the surgery, while recovering at home, Mom suffered a major stroke or several mini strokes (doctors were unable to determine).  There were no visible signs on Mom’s body of having a stroke (like her smile drooping on one side, no use of hand or leg).  The only symptoms Mom suffered from was a brain bleed/damage causing dementia/Alzheimer, on top of being a full fledged diabetic.

Over the last 10 years, Mom refused to keep her diabetes under control, causing other medical issues.

Please let this be known, if you’re a diabetic and don’t keep your diabetes under control, you will eventually suffer, and so will your family.

 Life is simple, and you can continue to smell the roses, and enjoy it, that is, if you take care of what you really need to take care of……….YOURSELF!!!!  Listen to what your body is telling you. In the end, all you truly have is your health.

What A Royal Pain In The Neck

Howdy Blogger friends, I just wanted to say I’m here but have been busy with family.

Bulldog Man had a surgical procedure to his lower neck this past Thursday.  He’s been dealing with severe Stenosis, herniated and compressed discs, along with impingement of the spinal column from C3 through C7.  The doctor has him scheduled for one more surgical procedure the 1^st of October.  By doing this, it is supposed to help lighten some of his neck and back pain, until he has his neck totally rebuilt by a neurosurgeon.

I’ve also been collecting gallon and half gallon water and milk jugs for several reasons.  I fill cleaned out milk jugs with water, and add them to my chest freezer when we remove meat or vegetables to prevent it from constantly running.  

I also cut the bottom of these water and milk containers out to make containers for seedlings in my greenhouse.  The container bottoms are the perfect size for when transplanting.

Little Bit of Fishing, Little Bit of Farming

This last week has been a bit hectic, I traveled down to North Texas to help take care of my mom.  My sister has been taking care/watching her, but needed to go out of town for her work.   I hadn’t mentioned it before in posts, but our Mom had surgery a week after my Dad passed away.  She’s been recovering from this surgery and dealing with slight complications.  I ended up staying in Texas through Friday afternoon, when my sister returned from her business trip. 

I have to say, Mom seems to be recovering quite well.     In fact, one night Mom and I were able to go out to eat, and enjoy a nice steak dinner together.  Get this…..she drove to the restaurant!!!  This is a really good sign toward her recovery.  We’re giving Mom a big shout out……………..Love you Mom!!!

Mom of course sent me home with a sweet gift; it was one of those Ninja blenders.  Talk about perfect timing, my blender is a true piece of $%*&@ and I was going to look for a new one.  Now I don’t have too :-)

This weekend, Bulldog Man and I woke early on Saturday to go fishing.  We were up at the pond at 6:20AM, the temperature was in the low 30’s and the breeze was downright cold.  Everyone fishing off the embankments had hard hits on their lines, but didn’t catch one fish.  Bulldog Man and I decided to pack it up after staying 3 hours. 

Because we were fishing not too far from Oklahoma State University, we decided to visit the Farmers Market, sponsored and held at the University.  All items sold at the market are Oklahoma made, grown, or raised.  The University adheres to a strictly “Oklahoma Only” market. 

Items the farmers would bring into this market; meats, cheeses, dairy items, herbs (fresh and dried), vegetables (dried, fresh, and still in dirt), crocheted and knitted items, tinctures, lotions, soaps, leather products, homemade bakery items, and handmade books.

Bulldog Man and I picked up a few things and supported a few of our local farmers.  Fresh milk, eggs, cheese, asparagus, tomato, honey, spices and berries (dried), a solid lotion bar, some potted broccoli, and dish cloths.
