Attempted Home Intrusion

It’s only 5:30PM and I’m exhausted and in pain.  The pain is from the pressure change and physical therapy.  The exhaustion, well that’s from the pain, lack of sleep and mental fatigue.  I’ve already taken Aleve, and used ice to pack the painful areas.  Tonight, I’ll use the arthritis salve made several months back to help relieve the pain.  Enough about how I feel, let me tell you about my excitement.
Picture this; I’m home alone this afternoon.  The guys are working or doing their thing and I was not expecting company.  The house was nice and quiet.  I had the urge to use the restroom. I entered the restroom. I pull down my britches and start to do my business.  All of a sudden, there was a pounding on the window behind me.  The noise startled me; I jumped…….stopped in the midst of peeing, pulled up my britches and ran in the other room for my gun.  See, our bathroom window is inside a fenced in area, and the gate is locked with a chain and padlock.   Before opening the blind, I aimed my 9mm, expecting a trespasser or someone trying the window to enter our home.  I pulled the blind open while my finger rested on the trigger.   To my surprise, there was a face plastered in the window, yes……a face……with a long beak.  This mocking bird was not happy, instead of tapping his beak, he was slamming himself into the glass window.
That was my excitement this afternoon.
Tell me about your afternoon.

Home Invasion Robbery

Home Invasion crimes appear to be on the rise in Oklahoma.  Recently in the news, a Piedmont woman returns home.  This young woman leaves her gun loaded in another room on a table while she takes a shower. While showering, she hears glass break in the rear of the house.  What to do? Her weapon is on the table in the other room, so she grabs the only visible weapon (remember she is in the bathroom), a plunger.  The victim in this case was able to fight off her two assailants, but suffered some injuries requiring hospitalization.  It appears the assailants had been waiting for the woman to return home. Check out this video provided by Channel 9 News OKC.

The FBI 2011 preliminary UCR (Uniformed Crime Report) statistics show a decrease on violent crimes in Oklahoma.  When reviewing the UCR report, you will notice, there is not a specific crime category for Home Invasion, therefore making it impossible to track home invasions as a separate crime. That is because law enforcement agencies report these crimes as robbery, burglary or aggravated assault.
The dictionary defines a home invasion as an act or instance of entering an occupied residence with the intent to commit a burglary or other crime.
Don’t be victim of a home invasion.  Home invaders usually will case your house or will have been watching you for days. Always be aware of your surroundings, especially when approaching your home.
Home invaders will generally target women, the elderly, and the wealthy.  The suspects look for money, jewelry, guns, electronics and drugs.  Anything they may use or sell quickly to make money (in most cases to buy drugs).  In most cases there will be more than one suspect involved in the home invasion.
ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AT ALL TIMEs, DON’T BECOME THE NEXT VICTIM.
It doesn’t matter where you live (in the city, suburbia, or the country).  Lock your doors and windows at all times.  Don’t open your door to a stranger, even if they’re requesting assistance or need to use your phone for help.  Make sure to lock up, make sure your prescription drugs, money and jewelry are not visible.

Reality Of Where We Are

Times are getting tough in this country, the typical middle class is no longer and those that were considered the lower class feel defeated due to the recession.  People are more cautious with spending money and those who are unemployed are having a difficult time locating work.  Employers looking to hire, take their time hiring because they have a diversified group of people with various levels of education, experience and age to hire from.  They’re extremely selective and won’t pay a person for their experience or skill.  If you think it’s tough now, WAIT!  There are more people (families) in the United States without food, a roof over their heads, clothes, shoes, cars and money that are living on the streets.  In order to just survive, these people turn to the state for assistance, organizations for food and shelter and some are committing crimes against one another.   Prices of gas are on the rise.  Commodities will follow, what’s next?  Have you figured it out?  Have you prepared yourself or your families for what’s to come? Do you think you should protect the ones you love?

Here’s the reality, courtesy of CNN today, February 26, 2012.

Excitement, ‘Twas the Night

‘Twas the night before our son’s Birthday, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. There was nothing hung by the chimney with care in hopes that REM sleep would soon be here.  Our son was nestled, all snug in his bed while an auto theft suspect hooked on meth decided to drop her stolen vehicle in our yard for a long winters’ nap.  All of a sudden a noise made such a clatter (door bell rang).  We sprang out of bed to see what was the matter.  Away to the window we flew like a flash, peaking through the blind we threw up the sash (curtain).  Okay….Okay, I will get to the rest of the story.  We looked through the window and realized the person standing on our porch was a police officer.  We opened the door to find out what was going on.  The officer asked us if the vehicles parked off to the side of the house were ours.  Our response, yes the trucks are ours.  He looked at us funny and stated how about the car.  Mr. Bulldog and I looked at the officer with a confused look and stated no, just the trucks.  He asked us to come outside the house and check out this car.    Our response no problem officer!  So we dashed outside, looked at the vehicle, we were both shocked to see a car in our yard.  The car was parked behind Bulldog’s truck, barely missing it.  She parked the vehicle there because it was dark and a convenient place to hide. The front tires of this car were dug deep down into the moist grass/earth.  The car was damaged and the inside was destroyed.  The officer informed us that the vehicle was stolen, and they arrested the woman (she was on drugs). The officer had the stolen vehicle towed off of our property and impounded.  He apologized for disturbing us and went on his merry way.  Now, dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!  Based on conversation with the officer, this unknown female suspect has a history of doing things like this and apparently has a past.  After all of this excitement, do you think we could go back to bed?  NOT. We ended up staying up until we had to go to work and school.

Happy Birthday Dakota!!!!  Tonight we are celebrating our son’s 19th Birthday.  He loves brownies. I made a large pan of brownies for the boy.  Totally decadent!!!!!   The brownies were made with nuts and chocolate marshmallow frosting.    Heck, we may even splurge for a nice steak and potato dinner for the boy!
