Moon - Bird Seed Mess

Last night’s moon:

I found this project to make bird seed wreaths and thought; I would try making a wreath first hand.  I followed the recipe, mixed the bird seed mixture, greased my bundt cake pan with nonstick cooking spray, spooned the mixture into the bundt cake pan, pressed down each layer of spooned in mixture (to make sure it was firm),  and let it set over night to dry as instructed.  The next day, I was supposed to just turn the bundt pan upside down (carefully), and the wreath was to slide out.  Yeah, right!!!!!  The bird seed wreath came out in 50 million pieces (no picture taken).  What to do….. oh, all I could do was smile

Smile and swear under my breath
and pickup the towel I was using (to prevent a mess), walk to the back door and fling the 50 million pieces of bird seed all over the back yard.  The birds loved it!

My 2nd attempt in making the bird seed wreaths (used tea cups to see if this concept would work and because I didn’t have enough gelatin to make a large wreath). I went back to the computer and found a different recipe.  The first recipe had just too much flour in the mixture and it dried the wreath out badly.    I found another recipe; this one worked…..YAY!!!!!  Now that I know it works, the next time I go to the grocery store, I can pick up more Knox Gelatin to make wreath with ribbon to hang in the tree for the birds.
I found the simple recipe (that worked) here:
Pictures of my tea cup experiment:

Now I know this recipe works and ribbon holds,
I can make a beautiful wreath and place ribbon on it.

  1. Sandy,

Love this idea! Thanks for the link. Glad the birds enjoyed the 'fruits' of your labor the 1st time around.

    1. The birds loved the messed up 50 million pieces and will enjoy the tea cup version too.

  2. Sandy
Thanks for doing all that experimenting for us!!
This is the first time I've seen birdseed made up this way.
I bet there were a lot of birds in your yard!

    1. Kimberly,
The birds are loving everything I put out there. Before, when I had tomatoes, they loved them and I had to cover all of my vegetable garden beds up with netting to keep them out. At times the netting wouldn't stop them.

  3. oh Sweet Sandy - thank you so much for posting this - you just know that i am stealing it - bahahahahaha!

much love to you honey! you know that i am always here for you! your friend,

    1. Sweet Kymber,

      Please steal, I borrow too.....LOL!!!!

Thank you and much love to you and your hubby :-)
      Your Friend,

  4. Oh this reminds me of when we lived up north in the country. I'd make this HUGE mold of birdseed cakes full of oats, birdseed, Crisco, and peanut butter. Try adding that to your concoction and even Cardinals and Bluejays will be on your wreath!!

    1. If I added this, I would have too many birds to feed. Right now I have alot :-)

  5. Sandy, I love this! I will have to pin it to my Pinterest account to remember it for this winter. :)

  6. Glo, It's a great idea for the birds, especially in the winter. Please add it to your Pinterest account.

  7. Great idea!...will have to try this...thanks for sharing!
