Join, Welcome, Thank You, Food Grade Buckets, Bread Trees, & GArden

I would like to start my post today by welcoming a new Blogger friend to my blog.   Welcome M.E. Masterson from Adventures of life!

Thank you for joining my blog, please sit back and enjoy the ride.   Friends, please check out the Adventures of life blog, you won’t be disappointed.

Food grade buckets!!!!  I went to Sam’s Club and picked up free food storage buckets from the bakery.  Instead of washing them inside, I decided to do it outside.  This made life so much easier on the first wash.  I wash each bucket once again before using them for food storage, and then place a Mylar bag in the bucket before adding the food, and oxygen absorbers.

Earlier this morning, I decided to make some more pumpkin bread, since it was a hit with everyone at the house.  I’ll need to hurry up and wrap these loafs and hide two in the freezer before the guys know how many were made J

Yo……mama, give me your carrots!!!!  NOW!!!!!!!

These branches are the start of so kind of tree. I’m not sure what type of tree it is.  If I let them go, they will cover the entire patio in the back of the house.  Today, I chopped 2 down into very small pieces and loaded up some contractor bags for hauling off and out of the way.  There are two more of these trees on the back fence line that need to be removed.  Does anyone know what type of tree this is?

I also took all the flower pots with old dead flowers to the side of our home, and dumped the potting soil into one of my cleared raised beds. I stacked the empty flower pots against the side of home until spring, when they’ll be loaded with new flowers.

  1. You are so organized. Those buckets will be super nice to have. What will you store in them?

    1. Michaele,

I try to be organized, this way I don't forget to do certain things around here. It's hard when you start getting older, that's why I create lists of things to do. :-) The food grade buckets with seals in the lids are used for storing food long term. I make sure to place a mylar bag in those buckets before using them. The remaining food grade buckets (those without seals) I use for items like dog grooming supplies, camping supplies (non-food), soap(bars), screws of all different sizes all kinds of things which don't require being sealed when stored.

  2. Nice haul on the buckets. Better put a bunch of carrots in them to keep that rapid looking hell hound at bay :)

    1. PP,

Thanks, I try to pick some up each time I go to Sam's Club. My dog Beans just loves to beg for anything you have on your plate.
Some days when taking his picture his eyes turn bright red, and because of his coloring he looks like a little devil. What can I say, he's a wonderful little guy.

  3. I'm not sure, but those branches look like a mimosa tree.

    1. Rev. Paul,

Thanks, I bet they are. Hubby keeps saying the same thing. I'm not happy with these things popping up all around the fence line.

    1. Leigh,

Thanks, now I know what these branches are. I just wish I could stop them from growing along my fence line. I think I will use salt as suggested from a good friend to kill off the stumps. These buckets come in handy, more so because I didn't have to pay for them.

  6. Rev. Paul hit it...its a Mimosa tree. They grow like weeds here in Florida. Did you happen to catch your new follower, m. e. masterson's pork chop, rice and green bean dish...I'm gonna try it.

    1. Oh, forgot, do you happen to have a recipe for the pumkin bread? I haven't forgotten about the pepper spicy jam either.

  7. Sandy,

nice haul on those buckets. As for the lids, something to think about is going to Lowes or Home Depot and purchase the "gamma lids" . You can also get them online at different retailers. They screw on versus the other lids, so that helps with not have to pop a lid off. Plus they are extra durable and reusable. I know when i have stacked my food buckets, up with the old lids, I have had those lids crack. Gamma lids won't.

    1. JUGM,

Thanks! We are considering purchasing some gamma lids. It will make it easier to open with these old hands, LOL......

  8. Salt will kill the plants and make the ground sterile. Nothing will grow there and the salt will be spread by the rain. I got rid of mine that did spring up along the back fence. Just keep chopping them down as they appear. Don't let them get so tall.

  9. Mimosa is what it looks like to me too. Great haul on the buckets. Did you have to call ahead of time and ask them to hold them? Or did you just walk in and ask? I'd love to find an assortment like that (a few anyway) for storage of some prep supplies. And Beans looks like a fine old soul! :-)

    1. 1st Man,
      Yes, you're correct.....it's a mimosa!
As for the buckets, I called my local Sam's Club and asked to speak to the bakery manager/supervisor. Explained I'm working on an experiment and needed a few food grade buckets with lids (where the bands were in the lids). The manager said come in anytime up to the bakery with a plastic bag and he would give me some. I go there each and every time with a plastic garbage bag (because the buckets will be dirty). When you leave the store make sure the front security knows the buckets were given to you by the bakery.

    2. Beans is a young guy not to old 5 - 6 years, his color is silver. A very unique color for a Chihuahua.

    3. Oh my gosh, my apologies to Beans for aging him before his time, ha. That is a unique color. Very cool!

  10. What an awesome score on the buckets! They are good for so many things. When we sold the old place and moved we didn't have room to take my "extra buckets". I've asked everyone in Tiny Town about buckets but there seems to be a few others with the same idea.
That pumpkin bread looks soooo yummy. Cuppa coffee and a big slice of that.... whew.... heavenly.
I'm really excited for you and your fall garden. It's rocking right along.
Since I'm low on bandwidth I'll send hugs to you and Bulldog man on your anniversary right here! I hope you are as happy in 50 years as you are right now.
