Welcome, Join, Thank You, Night Stands Done, and Other Stuff!!!!!

I would like to start my post today by welcoming a new
Blogger to my blog.

Welcome Mary Ann at Calamity Acres Hobby Farm   blog. Thank you for joining my blog, please sit back and enjoy the ride.

Several of you had asked me to show a picture when I finished painting the $20.00 pair of night stands I found on Craigslist.  The first picture is what they looked like before the transformation.

I painted each night stand with 2 coats of a light cream/beige flat paint, then I painted each with a bronze glaze to give them more of a Tuscan look, and then I finished them off with a clear paint to protect them.

Instead of looking for new hardware (handles), I just washed them up.

We were all trying to figure out what the surprise vine was that was growing in and amongst my tomato plants, we decided it was possibly a watermelon (based on the last picture I posted of the vine)………….well surprise again, look at this picture.  It’s a cantaloupe!

The other afternoon, it rained, and I canned several quart-sized jars of homemade beef broth.  I still have chicken broth to make and can, along with homemade tomato sauce.  Instead of waiting on a rainy day, I think I will tackle it within the next several days.

Here’s the last of my Swiss chard. I harvested it, and wilted it in some bacon grease for 1 minute in a frying pan, then served it up with some bacon on top and complimented it with a loaded baked potato for dinner.  Yes, I know…..not real healthy.

Next to harvest from my garden will be my carrots.  I pulled one out and believe I need to wait a week or two before harvesting this batch to make homemade honey glazed carrots.

Finally, I wanted to leave you with a picture my husband Bulldog Man took of the moon.  It’s gorgeous!  Have a great evening ya’ll……..

  1. I love how your night stands came out. Soo much nicer.

Seeing your broth reminds me that I need to dig out the chicken carcasses from my freezer to make some more broth. I am out and I use chicken broth in a lot of dishes.

    1. Heather,

Thank you so much! I love using this glaze. I have an extra container, I'm going to find another piece of furniture for free or real in-expensive and do it again.

Same here on the chicken broth, that's next on my agenda. I still have turkey broth to use but I prefer chicken.

    1. DFW,

Thank you, I think there okay!

How are you planting your carrots?

    2. Hey Sandy,

I've been away for a few days. I direct seed my carrots in my raised beds. I really don't have enough sun at the City House to even try to garden but I do it anyway!

    3. DFW,

Try planting the carrot seeds in a deep pot, this way it can be moved where the sun hit the longest at your place. Then they may grow for you.
Or plant the seeds in pots and use a natural growing light over the top of them.

  7. Hey Sandy,
Wow! You've been busy. Your broth reminded me that I STILL have chicken carcass' in the freezer that I need to get cooked and canned. *sigh* I've been canning tomato's for 8 days straight and ran out of propane yesterday. I can't get more till Friday, but to tell you the truth.... I'm kind of glad! I needed a break from canning. I think I've got enough tomato products canned to last well over a year now though.
Ya'll should take a trip and come get some of these tomato's! They are still going strong and no doubt there will be pounds and pounds yet to pick. I've already resorted to giving the neighbors a box full and the mail lady has had several bags left for her in the mail box. Soon I'll be like the folks who drop zucchini on the front porch and run!
Love the full moon pic BullDog!
    Have a Super Day!

    1. Hey Sci,

I try to keep myself very busy. We want to have a full pantry of canned items this year, this requires all kinds of prep work :-)
Like you, I have some chicken carcass' in the freezer along with a whole chicken I want to can.
Oh no, you ran out of propane........I feel your pain, lol.......I see you grinning because you have a break until Friday.
This weekend we have some plans already and next well it's off to NM. I will call you to make arrangements to come up with some mesquite were getting for ya'll. I would love some tomatoes but I maybe to late on getting there:-(
Be careful when you sneak up on someone's porch, you just never know what will be waiting for you now a days.

Don't work to hard girl, looking forward to getting together again. This time, I will make some kind of sweet rolls and bring some fruit or something.

I'm glad to see that your garden is doing well!
It is so cool here I'm not terribly hopeful.
Your side tables look so nice. A lota work I bet,
    but well worth it.
Beautiful moon picture your hubby shot. One thing I remember about my one year in Oklahoma was how huge the sky appeared.
There were many beautiful blue skies!

    1. Kimberly,

There are certain areas of my garden that are doing well and the you have the rest which refuses to do a darn thing. I wish it was cooler here, I would love a change.
When I bought the night stands it was too cold out to do anything with them. Hubby wanted me to wait until it was warmer and not damp. So it took me really about 3 days. I wanted to make sure everything dried properly, plus other chores needed doing. There is plenty of sky in this state, we are all prairie lands here.

So the little guy turned out to be a cantaloupe, lol! I love cantaloupe, It will be really good, I bet! I like your Swiss chard recipe, this is my favorite way to fix any greens!! Yummy. Well, gotta run, it is the last day off hubby has with the kids before school starts. Take care.

  10. Wonderful, wonderful! I am with you on the bacon. If it weren't for bacon I could easily be a vegetarian.
