Closet Over Grown

Don’t you hate it when you open a closet door, and it’s packed?  How about when you have to get something, and you’re required to remove items from the closet in order to get that one item you need?
I made the mistake of opening that good old closet door, and just wanted to close it fast and leave the area.  But my stubbornness stopped me; I pulled everything off of the top shelf and sorted through items.  Then we tackled items sitting in the bottom of the closet.  There was 10 years worth of Riflemen magazines in the closet. Bulldog Man received bags of magazines from a friend.  He read every single one, and was holding on to them.  I needed room in the closet, so we removed the mailing label on each magazine and recycled them.  Talk about making room in the bottom of the closet.

Bulldog Man and I sorted through the coats; we found 5 coats in relatively good condition which no longer fit, or were given to us as gifts, and we never wore them.

These 5 coats will be cleaned and donated to kids without coats, a great organization that makes sure all the kids in the area have something warm to wear for the winter.

Sending prayers up to all the families affected by the recent tornadoes through the Midwest. I wish we had the ability to help those hurting, as we did with our neighbors and friends 6 months ago, when we were hit with 3 large tornadoes in Oklahoma.

  1. We are having a community wide garage sale this upcoming Saturday, and I need to do the same thing. Senior and I have a large walk in closet, and we have it stuffed, mostly with all our gun accessories.... Thanks for the reminder that I need to get mixed up in that monstrosity...

    1. JUGM,

You're welcome! These are pictures after the closet was cleaned out.
We will be having a yard sale come Spring.
I hate working in closets, the space is small and dark.

  2. You seem to have the same mind about closets my wife does.

HE doesn't need that any more :)

    It's a conspiracy.

  3. sweet Sandy - sorry for being AWOL for so long but we have had a whirlwind of stuff in the last few weeks! i am glad that you tackled your closet just like a MMArtist would - kudos girl! all i can say is that i sure do wish that we actually HAD a closet in this closet of a cottage - bahahahaha!

Sweet Sandy - i know that you and yours would be there to help in a heartbeat...but sometimes we can only do what we can only do. there are people in the midwest, with big hearts like yours, and they can take the burden off of you and do the work that you did when the tornadoes hit OK.

much love always, eh? your friend,

    1. Sweet Kymber,

You're always a sweetheart!!! I so know you've been extremely busy, life keeps us all busy. We're preparing for another surgery two days before Thanksgiving. BD Man and I have been trying to get things done around here before he has the other hand worked on. Because truthfully, he's not suppose to use any tools that vibrate his hand for 6 months to a year. We have more trees to cut down and brush to move.
I tackled this closet because it had coats we no long use and OMG magazines to many magazines :-)

You're so right my friend, we can only do what we can do when it comes to helping others. There will be people much closer to help the tornado victims.

Hey will you stop sending this darn cold weather our direction?????
It's going to get real cold come Friday and start snowing.

      Much Love To You Both.
      Your Friend,
      Sandy

The deeper I get into prepping and self-reliance the shorter I get on storage space! I find myself sitting back deciding what I can or shouldn't give to the Salvation Army. Prepping takes a lot of space.

    1. Mike,

We have the same problem. The resolution is to give up something one truly doesn't need.

Great job on clearing out your closet.
It's not easy, we get attached to even old magazines.
I think I still have original Mother Earth mags!
Glad it's all going to a good cause.

  8. We send a lot of stuff to the Salvation Army every year, but I confess that while my wife is doing that to help people, I am more interested in the tax deduction.

    1. Hey Harry,

There's only so many receipts one can apply toward taxes :-)

  9. Nice job! Isn't it freeing to clean and thin those closets out? Plus the added bonus of knowing someone will really value the warmth of those coats.

  10. Katie,

It is nice to have a thinned out closet. Now I can close the door, lol

When I dropped off the coats everyone was so happy.

  12. There's nothing more rewarding than cleaning something out and finding good uses for things that are never used. Good job Sandy!
