Clove Oil - Butterfly

I’ve stashed a few bottles of Clove Oil in my first aid kit.  After burning the inside of the roof of my mouth on hot food, I was ready to try anything to relieve the pain.  I took a cotton ball and sprinkled several drops of the Clove Oil on it.  Then (not following instructions) I placed the cotton ball directly on the burn inside my mouth and held it there for 30 seconds.  After the 30 seconds, I removed the cotton ball and felt no more burning pain on the inside of my mouth.  The instructions state if using Clove Oil as a treatment, you should dilute it with water when touching the skin or insides of your mouth.  Only use the Clove Oil straight up when applying directly to a tooth that is hurting.

Yesterday, while watching the dogs play outside in the back part of the property, I came across this beautiful butterfly perched on the dirty bird bath.  I hadn’t had a chance yet clean the bird bath out, and put new water in for the birds.

With the temperatures dropping into the low 20’s the late evening, early morning hours, and somewhere between 46 – 60 degrees during the day it’s strange to see a butterfly.  I’m thinking with all these drastic weather changes the poor thing is confused.

How was your weekend?

  1. The butterfly was likely fooled by the warm days, as you guessed. Thanks for the reminder about clove oil; I'd heard of that, years ago, and had forgotten.

    Good tip.

    1. Yes the butterfly is confused.
The Clove Oil made a big difference for me. I will keep this handy for medical/dental problems.

  2. That is a late butterfly.

I knew Clove Oil was good for a toothache but I didn't about it helping a burn...good to know.

    1. The butterfly is late.

I was surprised when I applied the Clove Oil on the burn, it relieved the burning pain. Your suppose to dilute with water, I didn't. Be careful because Clove Oil is strong and is suppose to burn the skin/gums.

    1. DFW,

You can get extra newspaper at a recycle dumpster. We go into town and borrow (take) it. I ask the church folks for their newspaper when there done with it and they usually will have a bag full for me.

Eating is a good thing, I ate a lot myself this weekend. I have just to add straw to cover my raised beds and I'm totally done until spring planting.

  4. Sweet Sandy - that poor butterfly is probably very confused with your crazy temps!

and you can make your own clove oil (i make ours). just take walnut oil, olive oil or coconut oil ( i use coconut). add a tablespoon of oil to a small container...add 5 whole cloves and leave them sit for a good week or so. then you have clove oil. i make it regularly for our medicine kit. there is nothing better for cankers or sore teeth or anything that needs to be numbed.

    your friend,

    1. My Sweet Friend Kymber,

I had no idea it was that easy to make your own Clove Oil. I'm going to copy this recipe and make it for our first aid/medicine kit.

I'm going to need to pick your brain and find out what other recipes you have there I can borrow (steal), lol....

    1. Lotta Joy, Now you have me thinking of brownies, damn you!!!! Are you making some? If so, send me 1 or 2 :-)

Not good to have high diabetic numbers, my Mom is a diabetic. Gives shots multiple times of the day. It's not easy, everything she eats changes her numbers either high or to low. She was in the hospital for over a year, be careful with you diabetes.

  6. Did you have any ill effects from the clove oil directly on your mouth? I've used clove oil on a cavity I had that was KILLING me and I wasn't able to get to a dentist for a month, so it was a lifesaver!

    1. Carolyn Renee,

I had no ill effects. They say not to put it directly on anything other than a tooth. If you use it for anything else, dilute it with water then use it.
It was a lifesaver, immediately I had no more pain or burning sensation.
