A ritual I do every Friday is to backup my blog and
save it to a standalone backup drive.
You ask why I do this………………………I do it for several reasons. My blog could be deleted for some unknown
reason by Blogger. Or I could have picked
up a virus from a site I visited. Or
someone could try to hack my blog. These
are a few of the reasons why I backup my blog.
When I first started blogging, I had no idea how to backup my blog. Then one day, a friend of mine, Mike Yukon
over at the Living Prepared blog documented how to backup your blog
in detail on his blog. Ever since Mike
published these instructions, I’ve made it a ritual to backup my blog and
protect all of the work I’ve put into creating and maintaining my blog. I would highly recommend to all of my friends
to visit Mike’s blog, Living Prepared;
he’s always testing or making something to be more prepared and self reliant,
and when you do visit Mike, tell him I sent you J.

My green
beans are really looking amazing, and I’m so excited; soon I’ll be harvesting
all kinds of beans to can and freeze.
That is if we don’t suffer a freeze, from the weather we’re expecting tonight
and into tomorrow. The National Weather
Service is predicting heavy rain, winds, and potential tornadoes, and then for temperatures
to plummet into the 30’s in certain parts of Oklahoma. Yes, I said tornadoes. Can you believe it? Tornadoes this time of
year???
Speaking of weather, I’m praying tropical storm
Karen doesn’t turn into a mean hurricane.
Hopefully, the winds will remain on the low side, and the storm just
provides some rain in those areas needing moisture.
I’m sending prayers to all affected by the radical
weather working its way through the United States this weekend. Please be safe, stay warm, dry, and watch out
for flying debris.
Back to my garden………………
After checking on my green beans, I walked over to
another of my raised garden beds to find several of my melons pulled off the
vines and partially eaten. It looks like
a critter with teeth has been having a field day with my cantaloupe.

I had a suspicious vehicle pull up on the street alongside
my place, with Kansas tags. The vehicle
was a large SUV, and the male occupant scooted down in his seat, and just sat
there. I kept an eye on the vehicle, and
the male occupant, while cutting the grass.
After cutting the grass on the back of the property, the vehicle and
male occupant were still parked in the same place. Now I needed to cut the grass on that side of
the house where the suspicious vehicle/person was sitting, and well, I just
didn’t feel comfortable. I knew my
neighbor friend, elderly gentleman in his 70’s wasn’t home, nor were the people
down the street. I pulled out the
telephone, and called the local police department’s non-emergency number. I explained the situation; the police knew
we’ve had problems throughout the area with crime, so they responded
immediately. Two marked units drove up to the truck, the 1st officer
got out of his vehicle with his hand on his gun. He knocked on the rear window of the SUV to
get the occupant’s attention. The
officer walked up to his slightly opened driver side window, while the second
officer walked to the passenger’s window.
The 1st officer asked for the occupant’s driver’s license,
and vehicle registration, and proceeded back to his vehicle to run the subject
for wants and warrants. Apparently
everything came back negative. The 1st
officer handed the occupant back his legal documents, and asked him what he was
doing in the area. His response, just
waiting……………. for what, who knows. The
suspicious vehicle/person left the area right after the officer cleared the
scene. I’m pretty sure he knew he was being watched, and decided this was not a
woman he wanted to try to mess with!!!

Good for you. Better safe than sorry.
ReplyDeleteStephen,
DeleteI have to agree with you. The other party wouldn't of liked lead poisoning.
Thanks for the reminder. Time to back up my blog again. :)
ReplyDeleteHow scary to have a guy case your home. Glad everything turned out OK.
Gammy Tammy,
DeleteYou're welcome! Having your hard work back up is a lifesaver.
Everything was just fine, I know he wasn't to happy with me.
That is scary. I live in the city in a safe neighborhood. But, I do find out why people are parked in front of my house. Sometimes, they are just taking advantage of my abundant shade to eat lunch. Even though I know that, I just want them to know I notice them and care who is here. It pays to be careful. I guess you are somewhat isolated which makes it even more important to find out who people are and what they are doing their. A squad car in your corner helps.
ReplyDeleteLinda,
DeleteWe reside outside of town, and we make sure we are aware of everything going on in and around our home. Yes, having the police in your corner helps.
I meant to say I got the seeds, note, and a lovely patriotic card. Thank you very much. If I ever have seeds you need, just ask.
ReplyDeleteLinda,
DeleteI'm happy you received the seeds. You're very welcome and thank you.
Good advice about backing up your blog. You are smart to give them a chance to move on and then call for assistance. Hope you don't see them again.
ReplyDeleteMichaele,
DeleteThank you Michaele. It's always good to back up your blog, and your computer. I don't think I will see this vehicle in or around the neighborhood. He knows we watch :-)
