For the past two years, Bulldog Man and I have been
looking at riding lawnmowers to make life much easier…….especially since we
both are getting older. Each and every time,
the price was just too much for our pockets.
On Saturday, Bulldog Man and I needed the heavy duty
contractor garbage bags, because we ended up using all of the ones we had at
home. So off to Lowe’s we went (usually
we go to Home Depot, but avoided this area because there was an OU football
game in town with heavy traffic).
As we were getting out of our truck in the parking
lot, I noticed 1 John Deer driving mower sitting in the area where mowers are
after being fixed. Both Bulldog Man and
I examined the mower, it looked brand new.
There was no price tag on the machine, so we went inside to talk to the
sales representative in the lawn equipment section. The young lady advised this mower is usually
$1499.00. I said okay, why is the
machine in the repair section. “It’s in
the repair section because when we took the machine out of the crate from
shipping, the hydrostatic drive needed repair.”
Lowe’s ended up replacing the hydrostatic drive and just placed the
machine in the repair section for sale at a discounted price. Again, I asked what the price was she threw
some numbers at us; I said is that price negotiable?? Her immediate response, “sure I can give you
40% off of this John Deer tractor today with a full 2 year warranty.” Both Bulldog Man and I looked at one another
and said we will take it.
The representative said how do you want to pickup
this machine, we said just deliver it…………..with the negotiation the delivery of
the machine was free!!!
Oh how it pays to negotiate even with the big
building supply stores J
WOW! SCORE! YAY for you both. So are you going to get to use it or has he taken it over? LOL! Congrats, you'll love it.
ReplyDelete1st Man,
DeleteWe both used it, I told him don't you dare take a picture of me driving the mower, lol....... Thanks!!!
Nice! I'm looking for a zero turn one for The Compound. But until I win the lottery (of which I don't play), it's not soon on our horizon. Let me know how the John Deer stacks up!
ReplyDeleteIzzy,
DeleteThanks! I think you will find a zero turn real soon. The best bet it to look when winter starts appearing. Companies will negotiate with you. Heck girl, money doesn't grow on tree's here either. I in two months it will be paid off in full. John Deer is great, I like them. I drove this mower and love it.
Oh my gosh, you SCORED! I have a John Deere X320 and love it.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann,
DeleteThank you!!!! I just love this baby, it saves on killing myself with the push mower.

ReplyDeleteGood Job with your Score ! it never hurts to negotiate or ask a question...
ReplyDeleteJUGM,
DeleteThank you!!! Hey never hurts, I starting playfully talking and the next thing were getting this mower 40% off the top. It's a deal!
Woo Hoo! It NEVER hurts to ask.
ReplyDeleteDFW,
DeleteYou're so correct, what an they say NO? That won't hurt my feeling :-)
Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteNow watch your plants. When we first got a riding mower many plants "jumped" in front of Hubby and committed suicide, That was his story and he's sticking to it.
Gail,
DeleteI can see it now, lol........
Tractorman driving ooops......oh the darn plant just ran out in front of me.
Hubby is already trying to hog the machine.
bahahahahahahah at Gail above - that's awesome!
ReplyDeletenow sweet Sandy - get ready to fight for that thing! Jambo Gump is already running down there and i fed him a really good breakfast! he should be there by wednesday - bahahahahahah!
oh congrats hon! and make sure to slip a sleeping pill in BD Man's morning coffee...knock him out and go enjoy YOUR new toy!!!!
much love to you and yours! your friend,
kymber
Sweet Kymber,
DeleteI just love Gail, she is a good friend.
Oh no...............Jambo Gump is on the run and he ate breakfast. Hurry up Bulldog Man, get that machine in the garage before Jambo Gump get's here. He may fight you for it since, Sweet Kymber feed him a big breakfast, lol
Thanks Sweetie, we do like this machine. And yes, Bulldog Man is being a hog. I'll just knock him over the head with a frying pan, this way he gets to sleep and I get to play on the machine. Bahahahahahah!!!!
Sending love to the both of you,
Sandy
Oh Wow that sure ids pretty do not tell Mr. Bulldog that you know how guys are:) if he thought it was pretty it would lose some of it's appeal.:) B
ReplyDeleteB,
DeleteYou're so correct!!! I have to fight Bulldog Man to use this machine.
That's okay, this means I don't have to do work outside on the property shhhhhh.....don't tell him hehehehehehehe.
Nice find. That will make the constant mowing each of us seems to be doing a bit less hectic for you.
ReplyDeleteNow you need a tiller attachment :)
PP,
DeleteThanks! I was so over mowing with the push mower. When you have a lot to cut a push mower just doesn't cut it, lol.......
We actually have a very nice tiller which works very well. If this one breaks down, we will invest in the tiller attachment.
Good job negotiating!
ReplyDeleteI even negotiate for groceries at the supermarket. $3.89 whole wheat pasta was marked $2, so I said I would take all of it if I could have it for $1 a package. It worked.
Linda,
ReplyDeleteThanks! Great job yourself on negotiating.
It is small potatoes compared to that fabulous lawn mower, but the % of savings is about the same. Now, I wish I had a riding lawn mower.
DeleteWell done! And good for you for further negotiating. We are so trained to just accept the asking price. (I love a good bargain)
ReplyDeleteLeigh,
DeleteThank you! I used to accept the first price given, after watching a friend negotiate in a regular store. I thought why not try here, and it worked. From now on, my motto is negotiate where ever you shop. All the other person can say is "NO" we don't negotiate. It doesn't hurt to try!
Congratulations on the John Deere Mower. We looked at them at Lowes and DH would like to have one for some straight areas that we mow. That would make 3 mowers which seems a little excessive. If we do get another one that JD would be the one.
ReplyDeleteMy yard is so cut up with shrubs, flowers and bushes and trees, the zero turn seemed the best for us.
I keep forgetting to negotiate! I have been told that you should negotiate on every high dollar item you buy. I am not good at that at all.
Glenda,
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! Keep an eye out you can get some good deals this time of year from Lowes or Home Depot. Don't forget to negotiate, it will save you some good money.
I'm not good at all. I just ask them if the price is negotiable. If they say yes, then I listen to what they say price wise. Then I try to ask for another 10 percent off.
I hope you find the mower you're looking for, good luck.
Excellent! A riding mower was a requirement at the old house, where I am now, not so much so it was sold, the new owner very happy to get it at the price.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Brigid,
DeleteThanks!
I don't mind negotiating, but I would have never thought that a major chain store would even consider it... and at at 40% discount! A valuable lesson learned HERE today. Thanks so much! OH, and most importantly...Congratulation!
