Grass - Organization - Pantry - Storage

First thing this morning, I decided to tackle the grass.  Even though it was slightly wet, I figured just get it cut.  We are expecting rain everyday this week.  If I left it until it stopped raining, we would be living in the jungle on the property.  You would think we were feeding the grass Wheaties by the way it grows.
Bulldog Man purchased another shelving unit for me.  We added it to our kitchen wall (our make believe pantry).  This way I can put some of our larger appliances, canning materials and water up for storage.  We placed the microwave on the shelf.  This allows us to use the microwave stand for our water filtration system (once it’s built, I will take pictures and post them later this week).

I canned some potatoes the other day and I’m not impressed.  I think they look over- processed.  I’ll have to try again.

Need to wipe down the jars before storing.

I also did some organization of cabinets and drawers.  Give it a couple of days and everything that’s organized will be in disarray, lol.

We also picked up several food grade buckets for long term storage.  Friday, I will go into town and hit up Sams Club for more food grade buckets.

That’s all for now, life is good!

    1. Matt, I haven't really checked. I go there to get buckets from the bakery department free. Now I know you can get some good deals on the oxygen absorbers through the internet. Another thought is to use dry ice. Check this out: https://www.usaemergencysupply.com/information_center/packing_your_own_food_storage/dry_ice_in_food_preservation.htm

  2. Sounds like you have been busy. I don't know if SAMs sells obsorbers, but the do sell freeze dried food online. It is a brand I'm not familiar with, so I intend to try a sample order soon.

    1. I try to keep busy all the time. Good luck with trying the freeze dried food, I've never tried buying freeze dried food at Sams. I'm only used to the MRE's from the military and those are not really that good.

  3. Looks like you've been very busy. Always good to get organized before the rush of summer hits with all the gardening and canning. What type of potatoes did you can? I remember my mom buying canned potatoes once in a while when I lived at home .. mostly to add to stew. They never tasted too good.

    1. Mrs. Mac,

Yes, I try to keep busy all the time. Lord knows, there's plenty to do around here. The potatoes were regular old white potatoes. I'm not sure were going to like them. I guess I need to chaulk it up to a learning experience.

  4. Looks good! It's good to get organized before canning season starts! I really have to get a pressure canner this year.

    1. Hey Robin,

Again, thanks for the advice on Bok Choy. The pictures I placed on my post was just the beginning of organization. I plan on doing the entire house. I found a wonderful pressure canner over the internet on Walmarts site and had it delivered to the house.

  5. Your welcome on the buckets :-) I had no idea you could use hand warmers as oxygen absorbers. I will have to keep that in mind, thanks.

  6. I have found that canning new potatoes works, canning potatoes that are last year's crop get mushy. They are never like fresh, but when fried in butter, or added to a roast, the fresh dug potatoes are pretty good.
