*****Give - Away *****, Windows & Bricks 8.1

I know you probably want to know what I’m hosting for a give – away, and that’s fine; but before discussing it, I want to document a few things since this is a journal of things going on here at the Livesay Homestead.

First off, Bulldog Man was downloading a few Microsoft updates to our computer.  After downloading the updates, Bulldog Man went to go on the computer to use it when the computer failed.  He was unable to get the computer to turn on properly.  The computer would continue turning itself on and off.  With every attempt to fix it turning up negative, we had no choice but to purchase another tower to add to our system.  Now we’re stuck with learning Window 8.1; talk about so different than using the typical 7.0.

*****

The cucumbers in my garden have started producing the right size cucumbers for making pickles.  I pulled off 5 on the first round from the vine, and then another 7.  Enough to start canning dill and bread and butter pickles.  I was able to get 2 quarts of dill, along with 5 pints and 2 quarts of bread and butter jars.  I used the quart size jars on the bread and butter pickles because I ran out of pint size jars.

Lupin flowers are starting to grow in the front garden beds, their flowers are purple; thanks to Sweet Kymber from Framboise Manor, she sent me those seeds.

More Zinnas are growing with unique colors, here’s one of my favorite.

*****

I’m always looking up at the sky for beautiful clouds in shapes of characters.  Here’s a turtle laying on his back, or maybe an alien baby. Your thoughts??

Sweet Sandy - you seem to have gotten all purple lupins. they also come in pink, light pink, dark violet and a beigey-white. when we collected the seeds, we didn't separate them by colour because we just wanted to throw them around the yard. if you would like more seeds - just yell sweetie!

  2. I haven't made any pickles this year yet. No time so far and my mom keeps stealing em anyway along with 2 gallons worth of Bush beans she snuck into my garden and picked for a friend yesterday. She forgot to cover herself and while she was up feeding last night my Step Dad let it slip... LOL not that I care we have had so many beans this year it is unreal.

I think the Wife's Lupin seeds from kymber... err I mean Trenchie came up as well but I rarely pay much attention to her flower beds except when she isn't home and I am dousing them in Roundup :)

I have tons of baby cukes, carrots, Swiss chard. Finishing up the English peas. Beans going wild. Did a whole 12x4 foot raised bed of potatoes.
Only thing getting eaten is my peppers, I think I have aphids .

  8. Well our spring garden is gone. I've had enough with the weeds, so we pulled what we could, and now our little piggies have a buffet of weeds, green tomatoes, grubs, etc. They are enjoying themselves, and we love watching the weeds disappear! Getting ready to start seedlings for our fall garden in a month or so.

  10. Forget Win 8! If you have to learn something new, try Xubuntu. I have never regretted leaving Windows behind. :)

Your pickles and garden shots look great. So does the Porcelain Egg Carton Holder, but I'd better not sign up for this giveaway. I'm a terrible klutz with any thing breakable, LOL

  11. I would love to have the porcelain egg holder. I have two laying hens and three four-month-old Buff Orphingtons that I hope are girls. The ones who are boys will be eaten or sold. My tomato seedlings died along with the rest of my foodstuff because I became too ill for too long. So, I will try again with different plants.

Right now, I am putting up some free corn and cheap peppers and onions. I will freeze the corn and dehydrate the peppers and onions. Gallons of blackberries have been promised for free. We will see.
