Continuation, I'm Back

Now that were on the campsite pad, it was time to setup our travel trailer for use for the very first time.

Bulldog Man makes sure the trailer is totally level, chocked, water setup, the electric accessed, and pop outs are completely out.

Then it was time to unload the truck of all the items needed inside our trailer.  Boxes of dishes, pots, pans, silverware, cups, glasses, and all paper products.  We pulled out our travel bags loaded with clothes, personal belongs, bed and towel linens, a cooler with food, and a notebook which contained the documentation of instructions and warranty information for things like the stove, oven, heater, and fireplace.

Everything was ready to enjoy an extended weekend at the state park in our new trailer.

We unloaded all the items that we wanted to hang inside the trailer.  We hung some pictures, and threw out all the paper protecting the pictures.  Granted, we had additional pictures to hang, and we were going to hang the rest the next day.

It was about 6:15PM and everyone was hungry for dinner.  I started cooking inside the trailer since it was already getting dark outside.  We ate dinner, took a long walk through the woods with our dog, Beans.

We returned to the trailer, and I started to wash dishes.  Bulldog Man reminded me that sharp knives were inside the sink of soapy water, and to be careful because they were sharp.  I acknowledge what he said, was very careful with every knife except one.  I didn’t see it in the soapy water, and slid my fingers through the water and directly into a blade of a large cutting knife.  Ouch!!!!  My finger began bleeding; good thing we were carrying a first aid kit.  Bulldog Man took care of my bleeding finger, cleaned it, added antiseptic, and a band aid to stop the bleeding (no pictures taken of this incident, we didn’t want to gross y’all out).

Later that evening, I’m in the trailer getting ready for bed.  I start to wash my face, and brush my teeth, and I notice water inside the shower coming up from the shower drain and on the floor.  I holler for Bulldog Man, he comes running, and I ask him if he had turned the water on in the trailer or spilt water.  He didn’t, we both were wondering what was going on.

Bulldog Man checked the panel which displays all the water tanks (drinking, grey, and black water).  All tanks indicate the water levels were completely full.

What the heck??  We’ve only had water running to fill ½ a sink in the kitchen in order to wash dishes.  Something wasn’t right!   Come to find out, the day we picked up the trailer at the dealership, their maintenance staff filled all the water tanks (to test them) and the tanks were never drained after testing; we had no idea.  This caused both of us to walk up to the state park’s bath house, and take our showers there, and use the bathroom facility the entire trip.

Day 2, the sunrises nicely, and it’s supposed to be another beautiful day, with no rain.   We finish putting up pictures, when I start to realize my hand made dream catcher from Arizona was nowhere to be found.  Oh no, did I mistakenly throw it out with all the loose paper?

I panicked, grabbed the broom and had Bulldog Man come and help me dumpster dive for our garbage.  We ended up at the garbage container at the back side of the park, digging through everyone’s trash bags to find our garbage bags to make sure we didn’t mistakenly throw out the dream catcher (an expensive gift from my husband).    While digging, we realized we need a hook-type device with a long pole, because we weren’t going to dive completely into the trash dumpster.  As I continue checking the trash with my broom, Bulldog Man goes back to the trailer to create a hook-type device, to help pull/move garbage bags.  While in the trailer, he’s digging in our closet, when he comes across a bag, not yet gone through.  Guess what was inside the bag…………………………………….

The dream catcher.  It wasn’t tossed out by accident……Bulldog Man walks down to the dumpster where I’m pulling out garbage bags, swinging the dream catcher and singing. Minutes after tossing back all the bags I searched through, the Game Warden and Sheriff come upon us walking back to the trailer. They were investigating a 911 call of a person looting through the garbage in the park.  My husband and I turned to each other and laughed, the Game Warden and Sheriff looked at us as if we were crazy……and then I confessed.  They shook their heads, laughed, realized the 911 call was nothing, and continued on their way.

Day 3, the inside of our trailer was extremely cold.  The night before, we opened all the windows, went to bed and woke to the cold; 42 degrees outside.  We turned on the heater; warm air starts to blow….heating up the trailer nicely.  I crawled back into bed when all of a sudden this loud alarm goes off.    Bulldog Man and I both jumped out of bed nearly falling over one another to find what was going on.  Come to find out there was no fire.  The heater blew particles in the air (first time ever running the heater), the particles set off the alarm.

The moral of this story, check everything while you’re close to home when you purchase an RV before using it on long trips.

We’ve fixed, found, and drained everything necessary in our trailer, we’re ready for our next trip.

Now stop laughing!!!

  1. Hopefully this one will be a fun time with no boo boos or alarms...or arrests!

  2. Seems like now that people have a cell phone, they are just itching to use it to call the law on someone. Since when it is against the law to look in a dumpster? I'm glad you found your pitcher though.

Your rig sounds really nice. There are always going to be teething problems on a maiden cruise, that's why they send all the new ships out on a "shake down cruise" before they deploy.

Life sounds good out there. I'm glad you weren't cut badly.

    1. Harry,

That's so true, it's as if their cell phones are permanently attached to their ears....LOL
I'm elated we found the Dream Catcher, it means the world to me that I have it hanging up and it wasn't gone with the trash.

Agreed, they're always issues on the first couple of trips with any new RV/Boat etc.....and that is why you have a warranty. The rig is scheduled to go into the shop for warranty work.

Life is good, need a few adjustments to make it better :-)

    1. Rev.Paul,

Very interesting and never a dull moment. Yes, 42 degrees. Speaking of weather were suppose to have a cold freeze this week. You're moving right into winter up there with the high of 37 degrees.

  6. As a long time RV'er I can say your events are not uncommon. Another shakedown run will probably show a few more things but after that, happy traveling!
I do suggest that after you have your second home filled to the brim with all your goodies, take it to a truck scale and weigh it. Total weight and side to side weight to be sure your tires can handle the fully loaded weight. Blow outs are fairly common when loaded to the max. I know because I've been there :-)

    1. Mike,

Agreed Mike, we will be shaking the RV down again. More than likely after the shop visit. Our RV is scheduled to go in for warranty work. We've made a list of things for repair.

We've been really good about not overloading the trailer. Our plans are to get the tire monitoring system to help watch the tire inflation while were traveling. Before going out on every trip we've checked the tires. We also carry a repair kit, an air tank, and spare tires. I will make sure to tell Bulldog Man about your suggestion on weighing the trailer, thanks!

  10. What stories! Chuckling and cringing (cut with knife) while reading. I have a feeling you'll have many more to fill lots of blog posts. Let's just make sure all of them are good, happy ones from now on.

Love the smiling picture of your happy pup in your blog header photo!

    1. Mama Pea,

And they're all true!!! The knife was one of those square knives "Pioneer Woman" uses. I love that knife, it cuts well and sits real well in my hand....but not on my finger (LOL).

Beans loves to smile any time you take his picture. He's just a ham!!

      Hugs,
      Sandy

    1. Susan,

Thank you! The story of our silly life (LOL). It's never dull, and always exciting. We didn't name our dog. When we rescued him, the doctors office named him. So we decided he looks like a pinto bean, let's just keep his name.
      Hugs,
      Sandy

  12. Ouch on the knife cut. Almost as bad as pushing the garbage down in the can to make more room & get a slice from a can top. Double ouch. My Dad & his wife love their RV & head up to Ohio Amish country a couple of times a year, staying a few nights in the Smokey Mountains along the way. Can't wait to hear more camping stories from you two.

Oh yes....ouch and boy did it hurt! OMG, you didn't do that did you? That's very painful!
This is the first time Bulldog Man and I've owned an RV. So far it's been fun, and a tad expensive to make sure we have all the mandatory items necessary to function. But once we have what's needed we won't have to buy the items again. There will be more pictures, video's, and stories to come.

  13. Hmm, I thought garbage was "public domain" so to speak. Once a body releases it as garbage, it doesn't belong to anyone. Now littering during dumpster diving would be a no-no in my book - or - maybe said officers were just bored. What an "emergency!" LOL
