Prepackaged Poison

Making lunches for work or school is something we all have done over periods of time in our lives.   We all have done it; it’s convenient to use lunchmeat from the grocery store-- regardless of the preservatives, nitrates, and chemicals.

Years ago, Bulldog Man’s doctor told him to stay away from the processed lunchmeat.  When you eat this lunchmeat, all it does is cause your blood pressure to rise--from the salt and preservatives.

I’ve noticed throughout the years when eating any form of lunchmeat, I have allergic reactions to the preservatives.  My face and ankles swell, I get an instant headache, and then my throat swells.

To resolve our issues with prepackaged lunchmeat……..we purchase our meats from one of the local farmers, place the spices we like on the meat,  and then roast it-- chicken, turkey, or ham. We either roast it in the oven or out on the grill.  Then we pull out our handy dandy meat slicer, and slice up all the meat.  Pack the meat in food saver bags, and freeze for future use. This way there are no preservatives, nitrates, or chemicals we have to worry about on our lunchmeat.

We do this so we can stay away from the doctor, and medical issues relating to having too much preservatives, nitrates, and chemical reactions in our bodies.  I’m just saying; this makes a difference for our family.

  1. Lots of folks would be surprised how much better they'd feel by avoiding the processed preservatives.

    1. Rev. Paul,

Very true Rev. Paul. Generations before us had food that wasn't processed and they were much healthier.

  2. Man I thought you were going to write about how to poison someone. Do you make your own Pastrami and corned beef then?

    1. PP,

You wish I was going to poison someone, lol.....
Nah, I could never be so evil :-)
I can make my own pastrami, and corned beef but we really don't eat it enough to consider making it.

    2. How can you live without Pastrami?

      Heretic...

  3. We need a meat slicer. I have had my eye out for one at Estate Sales but no such luck, yet.

    1. DFW,

Meat slicers are one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. I kept looking for one at yard sales or estate sales and never came across one. I did find a deal via the computer through Kohl's Store. I had several cash reward dollars and the slicer was on sale so I made out.

Congratulations of losing 25 pounds by cutting out most crap and cutting back. We try to cut out the crap and eat better. It sure does make a difference in how you feel when you eat better and cut back.

  5. Sweet Sandy - i hate to agree with PP ( you KNOW how much i HATE doing that - bahahahah!) but i was hoping that this post was about how to poison someone - i can only think of 2 or 3 that i would really like to poison - bahahahaha!

but no, this post is awesome. we do the same. and jam was just in town and a german woman who had just moved here with her family was selling items out of the back of her truck - they have a farm about 35 mins from here and they raise all of their animals, certified and organic. jam only bought 3 strings of their dried sausage - i could kill him! it was so delicious we ate all of it in 3 nights and tonight we had their veinerschiznel....oh my gawd - so delicious. but she gave jam her number and from here on in - that's where we get all of our meat. they do eggs, chickens, rabbits, pork, sheep and beef. getting your food free of nitrates and crap will make all the difference in your health.

great post! much love to you and yours always, Sweet Sandy! your friend,
    kymber

    1. Sweet Kymber,

Give me that woman's number, lol........teasing, truthfully.....keep her number. German made sausage is to die for. Always if you can get fresh meat organic meat, do it!!! If you can help it, don't eat that crap with nitrates and preservatives. All this will do is make you sick and if it compiles in your body eventually it can produce cancer.
Thank you for the compliment :-)
Much love to you and Jam.
      Your Friend,
      Sandy

  6. It's kind of like everything you eat is from the deli that way. I eat a lot of lunch meat from the store, in those plastic packages. I know it probably isn't good for me , but it's fast and convenient. I probably should buy just deli meat, but it costs a lot.

    1. Harry,

The prepackaged stuff really isn't good for anyone. If you can find an organic meat at the deli counter it's a bit better for you. Dietz and Watson is a good brand at the deli counter it doesn't have all the preservatives in it. All lunch meats will be going up in price.

  7. Good for you Sandy!
Our CONgress is allowing companies to make us seriously ill all in the name of profit and re-election.
If we can't by our meats direct from the farmer we are at risk of consuming all the drugs and other junk they feed to cows and chicken etc.

      Thanks!!!
You're very correct my friend. Notice how back years ago food didn't have all these chemicals, preservatives, and antibiotics in them? Now almost everything has some form of chemical in it.

  9. You know, honestly I never thought about doing that. We don't eat lunch meats, well, very rarely, and when we do we try to keep them to Boars Head or something sliced from the deli. But this makes perfect sense. And we have a meat slicer I inherited form my parents. Just might try this!

    1. 1st Man,

It does make sense. If you make your own lunch meat you know exactly what's in it. No nitrates, salt, or poison!!!

  10. That is an excellent idea. Mostly we eat eggs for lunch because we have a lot of eggs, LOL. I do, on occasion, buy Hormel lunchmeats with no preservatives. But they are expensive so it's rare.

    1. Leigh,
Thank you, it works for us. Eggs are really good for you to eat. We eat them often but there are times when the guys must have lunch meat. So instead of get that stuff full of nitrates or heavy salt, we make our own.

  12. Great plan. Wild game is good for that too. I seldom buy lunch meat but if I do it is nitrate free. Still way to salty though. You know - it doesn't even taste like meat when you think about it. Just salt.

Thank you! Yes, wild game is good. Nitrate and salt free is so much better. Absolutely, the meat just tastes of salt.....no meat!!

  13. On those occasions I have to hit one of the "sub" places for lunch when I'm on the road, I just get a bunch of veggies on it with a little balsamic vinegar. They sometimes ask, "don't you want some meat on it?" I usually just politely decline but if they're pushy about it, trying to make the sale, I'll point at the slices and say " but that's not meat."

  14. Interesting!!!!! Looks like we need to look at doing that too. Maybe Mtn Man will quite getting headaches....thank you

    1. M.E.,

The nitrates and the salt will cause headaches and worse.
Have you noticed Mtn Man reacting to any of your roasts or meats? I know the answer to this question...... NO however, you do see him have a reaction after he eats lunch meat right? It's better to stay away from all that processed lunch meat. You're welcome my friend.

  15. I have been doing this since I was diagnosed with meniere's disease a while back and this has made big difference in the way I feel! I can't have any prepackaged food and have to be on a low salt diet but my energy level is so much better now, wish I would have changed the way I ate a long time ago! :)
