Garden - Get Out Of There!

This year’s tomato seeds were taking a long time to produce tomatoes.  I have one plant, a cherry tomato plant, which has produced all kinds of tomatoes; none are red except for these (they’re starting).

My cucumber’s seeds are popping out of the soil, of a flower pot, as part of my fall garden.  The peas are doing the same thing.  I can’t wait for a harvest.

When I went into town, I found several plastic storage containers to hold my stash of empty medicine bottles and glass jars.  I always hold on to empty prescription bottles, jars, and milk jugs. You just never know when you’ll need to use them to store something, use as a cover, or transport something.

And finally, I canned 5 pints of bread and butter pickles.  I’m the only one in the house who will eat pickles.  5 pints will last me over a year and I know they won’t disappear J

Little blurry picture sorry.

Bug decided to jump into the raised garden bed to check things out and found a marigold plant to smell……get out of my garden bed BUG, you don’t want Mom to spray you!!!

Temperatures are hot here, slowing outside work down.  How are things where you’re at?

  1. Your seedlings look great. I wished for tomatoes all last month and now I am wishing for less. If you have enough, you should try roasting/drying those cherry tomatoes. Unbelievably good!

    1. Michaele,

Thanks Michaele!! I've been holding on to the red ones so I can make a roasted sauce. I just wish I had more ready to use.
Thanks for the suggestion of roasting them :-)

  2. Hot and dying. I think we officially hit drought conditions again this week.

Tomatoes and peppers still going strong and the long ripening varieties are hitting hard now but everything else is pretty much dried up.

    Ready for Fall here now.

  3. PP,

At least the tomatoes and peppers are hanging on!
It's dry and hot here. The nights however, are in the low 60's.

  5. I seem to say this each season, but I am behind again! I really needed to get seeds planted over a month ago. Funny how life just catches up on you sometimes!

Hot mid 90s, heat index over 100, humid, rain almost everyday, here. I'm on countdown to October!

    1. Izzy,

Life keeps us so busy, it's hard to get everything done. Don't stress over planting seeds, you'll have plenty of time when spring arrives again.

Our temps have been in 90's during the day and 60's at night into early morning. We haven't had rain in a long time, and it's humid here too.

  6. Can't wait to hear how your fall garden does. I am going to try fall tomatoes plus broccoli, cauliflower & purple cabbage. Didn't think about peas, thanks for the idea.

    1. DFW,

I'm hoping the fall garden does well, this is a first for me. I went to our local university site to see what would grow in my area for fall and they suggested peas, beans, carrots, squash, cucumbers and a few other items. I'm hoping to get a large harvest. Hopefully everything will produce well for you in your fall garden, keep us apprised.

  7. sweet Sandy - that little Bug is just so cute! i have to get cracking this week on my fall garden - i am doing a few different veg and i am going to try them a few different ways. for example, i am planting kale directly in the ground, planting some in cold frames and planting some in pots in the greenhouse. all in order to see which does best to learn better for next year. same with beans, peas, etc. *fingers crossed that both of our fall gardens do well*

    your friend,
    kymber

  9. Our tomatoes were not so cooperative this year either.

I save each container and end up using them.

    1. Gail,

Do you think it's the weather causing the tomatoes to be uncooperative?

Empty containers always come in handy :-)

  10. My turnips and collards are humming right along....a good use for those RX.bottles is to store matches or small cell batteries in them..

It is hot here too...funny how quiet Hurricane season has been..probably that pesky global warming thing

    1. JUGM,

We have a stash of bottles already with matches, and cotton.

I hope your turnips and collards produce a wonderful harvest for you this season.

Hurricanes I don't miss, I've been in several in my time. I used to live in Davie (Ft Lauderdale)and Homestead AFA, Florida for 20+ years. The last major one was hurricane Andrew. My old home on base was totally gone and the home I was living in had trees, boats and cars flying by.

  11. HOT! and HOT! lol, not much we can do outside down here. I hope to try a Fall garden if I can figure out my irrigation plans. Even one bed with some Fall toms would be great. Fingers crossed.

  12. I managed to grow one tiny pepper and two tiny tomatoes this year. Plants just didn't do well with all the heat we had. I love bread and butter pickles! My Nana made the best and I always looked forward to Thanksgiving when she brought them out to put on the table. Enjoy!
