Oklahoma Prepping

For over a week our local News Channel 9 advertised a segment on prepping, making it sound as if you were going to learn something. Their commercials ran numerous times daily for approximately 5 days. “Tune in Monday, the 21st of May at 10:00PM for the story.” Okay, so Bulldog Man and I stayed up to tune into the segment. To our despair we were totally disappointed, the segment only last 2 minutes and 42 seconds and we learned absolutely nothing. Am I being petty, was I expecting to much? What are your thoughts?

  1. I watched this and walked away that these expos are making money off of people that feel vulnerable. You can prepare without buying zombie bombs, etc. (lol).

  2. From a news channel, I'd say yes you were expecting tool much, but I don't blame you for expecting more than they offered...remember, they're the 'new media,' and losers to boot. Most serious prepping (or as I like to refer to 'us,' Survivalists) information is in print form. Books, and or blogs. The net is filled with great information.

    1. Stephen, Our news media hypes everything, I know better. I figured I would give them the benefit. But WRONG!!!!!
Books definitely off more suchas: 98.6 Degrees of Keeping Your Ass Alive, Atlas Shrugged, Patriots, Countryliving Encyclopedia and many others. My favorite though are my blogger friends. I love reading and learn from their experiences, suggestions and recommendations. Thank you my friend, don't work to hard and have a coffee in the morning for me :-) Give Sweet Wife and LB a hug from this Okie.

  3. We as Preppers/Survivalists are few in number and I’d bet most have a point of view that is Conservative and not Liberal. We are now at the point where over 50% of the population EXPECTS the government to take care of them no matter what disaster happens.

The Liberal news media no longer reports any facts but now their opinions and slants all news to the hate the rich, Liberal agenda believers. So you shouldn’t be disappointed with that story as the reporters are Liberals who believe Preppers are wacko’s and that’s their slant on it.

When National Geographic first announced the series about "Preppers" I was excited! Finally, I could see how others prepared and in the NatGeo format would be detailed and useful. After 15 minutes of the first episode it was clear to me they wanted to portray Preppers as extremists, gun toting wack jobs like they do to the Militia groups.

I think they succeeded and it is a shame because everyone needs to be able to take care of themselves and at the same time be able to help others get through a disaster. For the people who would like to have a few weeks of food and water on hand will not do it. They are now afraid to do it because their friends and neighbors may think they are nut cases. What a disservice to these people. Thank goodness there are Bloggers who share thoughts and teach others how to live prepared sensibly.

    1. Mike, I agree with you totally. The news media no longer report, they make their own news and have one agenda. That is to destroy good people in order to create their own drama and increase ratings. As a blogger and a prepper, I'm always looking to learn new ways to make life for my family a little better. When the news media or television networks create segments or shows to destroy the prepper or make them look like extremists/wacko's, I find it totally dis-hearting. We all need to be able to take care of our selves, families and others to get through any type of disaster. I would rather be proactive than reactive.

  4. I loyally follow Doomsday Preppers so I can see how idiotic most of them seem to be. It's better to bug in than bug out, and when they supply their water they don't seem to realize that it goes bad in store-bought plastic containers.

In Indiana, we stood a good chance with a basement and cistern.

I honestly believe the problem will erupt with incoming food trucks being stopped, and grocery shelves being emptied by looters. Monthly medication necessities will be irreplaceable. But maybe that's just my paranoia speaking.

The main error I hear is of stocking rice. Cooking rice uses up precious water.

    1. It is going to be interesting this next year. Rice does take up precious water and broth. Some containers are food grade that don't leak but most are not graded that fashion.
