Busy Work!

We’re finally finished going back and forth in between 2 homes (a rental, and our newly purchased home), this month will be our first month without paying on two places…….now we can save a little money!!!

*****
In my last post, I mentioned we were working on placing gutters around our new home. Bulldog Man and Tank, in these pictures, are putting up gutters and taking measurements.  We’ve had several days of severe weather, causing delays on the total install.

*****
Since our new home is out in the middle of the country, telephone service has been a tad bit difficult.  We’ve had to switch cell phone providers (from T-Mobile to AT&T) because T-Mobile has absolutely no service in our location.  Now that we have AT&T service, functional telephones are only functional in 2 rooms in our new home.    To resolve this issue, we purchased a booster from Wilson, a WeBoost 4G, to help with service throughout our entire house and property.  The booster will allow us to receive the outside cell signal, amplifying it, and rebroadcast it inside our home.  Bulldog Man found a pole at Home Depot, and antenna brackets (from True Value Hardware) to build a mast for the booster’s directional antenna, and ran coax wire directly from it to the middle of the house to connect to the signal booster, located inside the house.  I have to admit, having this booster makes a world of difference when dealing with cell phone connectivity.   We went with this particular product because it allowed us the flexibility of using the cell phone anywhere on our property for emergencies when necessary.   This particular cell phone booster was an investment, and pricey at $549.00.

*****
Hungry and nosy visitor, of the 4 legged kind, left prints across the side yard of our home, directly to our trash can outside.  He/she tried to get up the side of the can to open the lid, with no luck.  We chuckle to ourselves, when we see these prints daily, trying to get into our trash.    Persistent little Booger!!!
Raccoon Prints!

*****
I haven’t planted any vegetables or fruits this planting season.  When we moved, I brought several containers of strawberry plants to the new home.  They’ve started producing berries…..so far the wildlife haven’t found them!!!!

Speaking of gardens, yesterday Bulldog Man and I purchased a new tiller to use in the hard to get places on the property.  We bought this baby new because I won some money at the casino the other day.  Yes, you heard right!!!  While in town, I had time to spare, and went into the local Indian reservation casino, put a few bucks into a machine, and won $200.00; then I went into the high roller room, placed $100.00 into a $5.00 machine and walked out with $3,400.00.

There’re plenty of things to keep us busy here at our new place, I apologize if I haven’t been around lately, and promise to get to everyone’s blog to read and or comment.

Stay tuned, in the next couple of days, I will once again be hosting a nice gift give-away, relating to canning.

  1. Glad to hear you made it through the storms without having to test the root cellar, we were worried about you. Congrats on the winnings and a good choice for the tiller.

  2. Wow, great on you!!! I've never done that but I'd love to sometime. No casinos in Texas of course but we could head to Louisiana. Maybe I should, I just imagine what winning something like would mean I could buy for the farm, LOL!

Nice job on the gutters, we need gutters but have to get the roof done first. 2nd Family has to seal up their trashcan with bungee cords front to back and side to side. Raccoons there. What do you think you all have? Raccoons or opossums?

Stay safe, May is just starting. I'm glad to know that y'all have a safe place to go to though.

  3. Mike,

We made it through without going to the shelter. We thought we seen an ARK float by though. We've had so much rain, to much at once. We even had flooding down our long driveway, washed out a few places. Rapids were forming on the drain ditch all the way down past our gates, over the dirt road, and down in a spring run off. It's been interesting living out here, and we won't give it up. Winning this money was a nice surprise. If this were my money, I wouldn't play the $5.00 machine. Since it was money I won from the casino, I took a change and walked away with some nice cash. We used some on the winnings on the tiller. We have to agree on the tiller!!!

  4. 1st Man,

If you go to any casino always go with money you're not concerned about. I usually will play no more than $40.00 if it's my money. Now if it's money I've won from the casino that's a different story. There are two Indian Casino's on the Texas Oklahoma Border as well.

We were going to wait on the gutters but had no choice when it rain for days here. We needed to direct the water away from our home. It's raccoons trying to get in the trash. They can't get into it because it's to tall, and slick on the outside of the container. Bungee cords help for sure.

We're going to keep an eye out with the weather, y'all be careful as well.

    1. Sweet Kymber,

I would love to come up there....maybe to fish, not to gamble :-) Our house is so much nicer than what we had just outside of town as a rental. We're still working on the inside of the house girlie, when done I'll post pictures. As for Tank, thank you!!! We're happy he wasn't hurt however, they're days we would like to strangle him, LOL.....

Look close in one of the pictures, we have rain barrels and plan on attaching several to the gutter system.

Sending love to you and Jam.

  6. Lucky you! Congrats.
And good info on that cell signal booster. We'd love to get rid of our landline , but our cell doesn't work here at all.

    1. Sue,

      Thanks!!!!

We found our initial carrier for cell phones didn't work out here either. We had to change carriers in order to get service in 2 rooms. Now with the booster we get service throughout the house. Maybe you can find a deal with a competitor carrier to buy out your existing plan??

  7. I see I will have to take you along, should I ever go into a casino! I'm with Kymber on the rain barrel. As it sometimes goes, you get all your rain up front, then nothing for the rest of the year. It's amazing how much water is stored in those barrels. It's fun to see the pictures of your new house - it looks so nice. And that investment is worth it - you have to have access to your phone when you live out in the boonies.

    1. Susan,

I'll be more than happy to go with :-) We do have rain barrels, and have attached several to the gutter system. Can't waste water now a days!!! We prefer paying on our own property, instead of paying someone else like the home we rented. It's just at the time our stay in Oklahoma was suppose to be temporary.....which lead to 8 years. At which point it was time to start investing in our own place. Telephone access is most definitely needed no matter where you live. With all the equipment one works with and the animals and wildlife, I wouldn't be caught dead without a way to communicate for help.

      Hugs,
      Sandy

  9. remind me to take you with us if we ever make out to Vegas... Congrats on the win! We have a smaller tiller too, much like yours, it does make it easier with those hard to get places. Its also great getting between the rows when the corn is high.

We had those same four legged critters last summer infact it was an entire family getting into our watermelons. We set traps and were able to relocate them all.
I know the boost for your cell service was pricey but it was a good investiment. We have ATT too because being so far out in the country every other carriers coverage sucked. But we are ending our contract with them and going to start getting the GoPhones and pay monthly.

Everything else looks great, the boys want me to start a little strawberry patch, so I might do that soon. Much love to you guys

    1. Senior and Glock Mom,

We should all go to Vegas, we would have a blast :-)
Thank you girlie, I love winning money I wasn't expecting to win. Having a small tiller gets in the tight places, and the bigger one gets the massive jobs done.

The 4 legged critters can be a royal pain when it comes to our food and our garbage. A relocation plan is always necessary.

The cell phone booster was pricey but makes a great investment. We can also use it in our travel trailer, so far it really works great. Go phones are a great way to save money and no deal with any sort of contract.

Love me some strawberries!! I believe your boys are on the right tract with having you plant strawberries.

    2. Besides I could come over and help consume those berries :-)

Love to you and your family.

  10. Never hurts to pick up a little extra coin. Up in Murphy , North Carolina there's a Cherokee casino. I used to like to play the slots in Reno, Vegas and Tonapah when I was driving back and forth between my folks house and Albuquerque when I was in school. But my wife is a baptist and she doesn't want to go into the casino. Maybe she is afraid she will like it! ;-)

That cell phone booster looks like a good deal. My cell phones here will only work if we walk up slope to some boulders, where there is a straight shot through the mountains to the tower.

    1. Harry,
I go every now and then, and go with cash I'm not worried about. It's nice to win any sort of cash, even the larger payout. We went to Vegas for our anniversary last year and didn't win a thing. The Indian Reservation pays out more than Vegas.

The cell phone booster has provided us with service in every room in our home, it's worth it because we need a communication source living out in the country. We have a ham radio and the cell phones for emergency access to family. Have you considered a booster for up on the mountain where you're at?
Hey are y'all okay up there, I've heard there's evacuations up in GA from wild fires.

  11. Good thing you have a tight lid on your trash can! The paw prints made a great shot. You two sound so busy! But a really good busy. I love seeing progress on your new home.

  12. Leigh,

Thank goodness for fixed lids. The raccoon hasn't been able to open it. We're slowly making progress on our little farm.
    Thanks Leigh!
