Seeds, Family, Deer, Christmas, & Give-Away

This afternoon, I sat down with my seed box and inventoried my seed packets, to determine what seeds I need to add to my seed collection, and I came up with a very nice list.  With my list in hand, I pulled out my seed catalogs……and started circling seeds I planned on ordering to replenish my seed collection, in preparation for my spring garden.

Last year’s onions didn’t really amount to much.  I decided I really wanted some nice onions to put away for use in the future, and needed to find a good company to order from.  I also wanted to receive a little instruction on onion growing, since obviously I wasn’t doing something right.  So after reading a post made by a friend, Texan…..I asked her about her onions in an e-mail.

I learned a few things, and placed an order today from Texan’s source, Dixondale Farms. I ordered one bunch (5 dozen) onion’s seeds; they should be here in a couple of weeks.

I found a great deal on organic small snack size carrots at the grocery store the other day.  Picked up several bags, canned them, and added them to the pantry.

Bulldog Man went hunting with his friend at his friend’s camp/deer lease and had a blast.  There were several deer stands on this deer lease property, which was over 300+ acres.

This was a holiday shoot therefore; requiring a special license for an antlerless hunt.  Bulldog Man brought home a deer.

Tonight, we will be processing SOME of the venison for the freezer.  If you’re squeamish don’t look at the next picture.

A picture of our daughter, M…. came here to visit us from Dallas, with her dog, Oscar, just before Christmas.  Her boyfriend, MK, couldn’t make it.  His mom was sick and was having medical tests.

It was really nice to see M….. Bulldog Man got to see her with her boyfriend about 6 months ago, when he was out of town on a job site.  M is all grown up, lives on her own, and has an amazing job.  Her Dad and I are proud of all of her accomplishments; as we are with both of our sons S, and Tank.

Our son, S, his wife S+, and their kids celebrated Christmas early since our S had to work.  He works out in the oil fields; long days, comes home for a week to be with his family, and then he heads back out to the oil fields.

Bulldog Man was able to see both S and S+ when they came up from Texas on a long motorcycle ride.  They were trying out their new motorcycle; at the time, I was down at my Mom’s house, taking care of her.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to see S, S+, and our grandbabies soon.

Tank has been enjoying his new job. He works nights, so we don’t see him that much.  He’s happy; he just received a salary increase.

My sister, K sent a beautiful Edible Arrangement of fruit to our house for Christmas.  She knew we were having company, and understood our daughter, M, is a vegetarian.

The arrangement was delicious and was a hit with everyone.  Thank you Sis for the fruit arrangement, love you!

Oh um……I tried to get a picture of the arrangement before everyone tackled it.  I was a bit late on getting the camera out…..sorry.  Here’s a picture of what the arrangement looked like from Edible Arrangements.

  1. ya know what would make that edible arrangement even better? Chocolate sauce to dip the fruit in...yummmeh! But it looks like there is chocolate reindeer so that fix is taken care of..
Girl you need some seeds I can get ya some seeds. We have the best feed and seed in the nation. infact, I might have to do a contest for spring seeds or something.

I referred you to Carolyn at Krazo Acres because I remembered her seed swap on her blog. She had organized it very well, and thought she could give you some ideas.

Since the mention of the words Seed Swap we have peaked Carolyn over at Krazo Acres interest. Check out her last post!!!

    1. PP,

Yes sir, stew, hamburger, sausage, chili, roast ........

The holiday season was okay, Bulldog Man had a blast. It's been a while since he's been hunting. I insisted he go because I knew he was going to have fun.

  3. Buying the carrots on sale and canning then is smart and sometimes cheaper than growing your own!

    1. Mike,

I buy organic vegetables from the store only if the sale is a good one, and the vegetables look good. Especially in the winter when our garden is fast asleep until spring.

  4. Sounds as if you've been keeping busy, for sure. Good you got to see so many relatives, especially your beautiful daughter!

Sorting through my seeds and getting in my order(s) for this coming year is on my list to do soon. (Even though I won't be able to plant anything until June. Or July. Or . . . )

  5. Mama Pea,

We're always busy, it's hard to find quiet time around this homestead. It really was nice to see relatives over the holiday.

It's good to get an early start on your seed list and order because the seeds go fast.

So....who wants to set one up? Any takers? Hmmm? Hmmm? I just had to check MY blog....I totally forgot about my Seed Swap tab. Guess I need to get that updated.

  7. Mice ate my whole stash of seeds. I opened the containers and there were just chewed up seed packages.

I'm glad you are having a good holiday season and getting to visit with some of the kids. Sounds like you have a really nice family, Sandy.

    1. Harry,

I'm sorry to hear about your seed stash Harry. Several of the seed companies are offering discounts and sales right now if you want to replenish seeds.

Our holiday has been nice and quiet and that is what my husband and I needed. It was nice to see family before the holidays.
