    1. JUGM,

29th Birthday every day right, lol
You guys are really prepare, and that is just totally awesome. We looked at a Berkey System, and thought it's a bit pricey at the time we were looking, so we made our own system using Mike Yukon's instructions out of 5 gallon food grade buckets and ceramic filters. It works so well. In fact, we made an extra one for camping or emergencies. I've entered you in the give-away, good luck!

    2. Sweet Sandy - don't listen to JUGM - she's actually turning 30 on the 29th!!! as for Berkeys - we loved ours back in the city, Sandy - we used them to filter all of our rainwater for drinking. and then at some point a few years ago, we also came across Mike Yukon's instructions. now the actual Berkey containers live in vandura and jambaloney runs our water through the 5gallon buckets using the Berkey filters. live and learn eh?

Looks like you have a few knuckleheads to contend with on your blog! If I win, I'll let Stephen and Senior bid on it! We're good on the water end, we have a well w/Reverse Osmosis, and a Berkey filter system.

  8. This would sure be a workhorse for me. In warmer weather I can haul bottled water in from a running spring 10 miles uproad. Other wise, it's that nasty chlorine overload eyeburning, sorethroat yuck from the spigot. Yes, I'm dehydrated. Can't for the life of me get answers from utility co. nor the State about what chemicals are put in the water - hem-haws I get, then grudgingly told "just salt is added". What the heck! Salt! Why their secrecy? I can sure use this filter system.

    1. Sissy,

Oh I so hear you on water and chemicals from the utility company. We have funny water here too. We only use filtered water.
When someone refuses to give you answers, that is an immediate flag for me.
I've entered you in the give-away, good luck :-)

Let's see, we have several 55 gallon barrels of rain water, we have a well, we also store water in gallon jugs, I save anything and everything that water could be put in...the one thing we are missing is a filter...it's on the list, but finances seem to always get in the way...LOL...Please enter me, I would love to win!

  14. You always come up with the best giveaways. I have to confess that water is a concern since we are on city water. We have our rain catchment and a water filter which we use for tap water but might could be used if all we had was the rainwater.

  16. Water preps.

Some bottled water stocked -- need to replenish. summers take a toll on that.
Some Jerry cans filled and water replaced every three months.
2 Life Straw personal water filters (good for appoximately 250 gallons).
3 sets of ceramic filters good for several thousand gallons each.

4 - 55 gallon water barrels set up to catch rain water. Plan on running through the above filters.
Propane for stoves (and a very limited) supply of wood to boil water as a back up to the filters.

  19. I would love to win that.

We just store water in extra containers because we can carry our water. However, we have thought of covering the water to keep it from becoming contaminated by air borne poisons.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Gail,

It's always good to have a filtration system to take care of contaminates in your water.

I've entered you into the give-away, good luck.

  21. Since I got lucky the first time I entered one of your contest I will try again. I don't have any serious water preps but I do share a well with my in-laws and they have a diesel generator the keep the pump going for small emergency's like power outages.
