I would like to start my post today by welcoming a new

Blogger to my blog.   Welcome Mrs. Mac at The Experimental Homemaker blog. Thank you for joining my blog, please sit back and enjoy the ride.

On Saturday, Bulldog Man and I drove over to SciFiChick’s (from Bacon and Eggs blog) place.  We stopped in to share some green Chiles and Mesquite before heading to visit family in Tulsa.  I love driving out and visiting with Sci, and Mars, her husband. We always have wonderful conversation and before you know it the time flies.   Before leaving, Sci and Mars gave us all kinds of beautiful tomatoes from their garden, some peppers (various types) and these awesome Juan Canary Melons.

I was so excited, I couldn’t wait to get home and can the tomatoes, use the peppers with meals this week, and cut into the melon.

I canned the tomatoes, snatched a good amount of tomato seeds from 8 tomatoes, and dried the skins I peeled off each tomato.  I followed the instructions Sci provided on her blog for powdered tomato skin.  Now I have a jar started for powdered tomato skin, and plan on adding more powdered skin to the jar for future use.

Added to our refrigerator is a pitcher of water with sliced fresh cucumber, fresh ginger, and mint from my garden.  I always try to have a pitcher of water laced with something exciting so everyone in the house drinks the appropriate amount of water daily to remain hydrated.

Monday, I will introduce my new give - away.  Here’s a hint of what it relates to:  Training – Preparedness……………..

Any ideas what I’m going to post for the give – away?

Is that melon a musk melon type or something else?

    1. PP,
I believe this melon is a musk melon.
It originates from Spain, and is part of the yellow variety of the Piel de Sapo.

  2. Hi Sandy, Boy, those canned tomatoes will sure be nice this winter to grab off the shelf! Our tomato crop is puny compared to last year's. Have a blessed week.

    1. Leigh,

Yes we do learn so much from one another. I'm so happy I learned this idea from SciFiChick. This way I didn't waste the tomato skins. Truthfully, I wouldn't of wasted them, they would have went into my compost. I would rather have tomato powder in my spice cabinet for using in cooking then putting the skins in the compost.

  5. Well...I hope you give away some of that unbelievable knowledge and fantastic heart you possess!

I have my last (hopefully) visit with the oncologist today, and I have to admit, I was depressed over ANOTHER doctor visit for Monday, then another on Wednesday.

Then Joe walked in the door grinning from ear to ear. Anyone who makes his baby grin, has already won his heart.

I knew what it was....and it could have been gold and diamonds for the joy on my face.

THANK YOU!!!! Is the address on the box one I can use to send something I'm making to you when it's finished?

$7 for shipping???? I AM NOT WORTHY, and no one is that rich. I owe you big time sweetie.

    1. Lotta Joy,

You are just so sweet, thank you for the lovely compliment.

I've got you in my prayers in hopes this will be your last visit to the oncologist, and for good news regarding your health.

Sweet, I put a smile on some faces!!!!!! Yes, the P.O. Box is the correct address. I always send packages so they can be tracked and delivered within days. It costs a little bit more but gives me satisfaction to be able to track. No, money doesn't grow on trees, and were not rich. You don't owe me at all. I sent you these Chiles because I wanted you to try them.

  10. LOL! Boob like? Now that there's funny! I'm so excited. You canned yummy tomatoes AND made tomato powder! Cool. I spent the day putting up Hatch chilis (thanks again soooo much) and starting some spaghetti sauce with the tomatoes you wouldn't take home. hehehe I've never had problems processing peppers before but I tell ya both my hands were burning today. I had to console myself at lunch today with some leftover mesquite smoked chicken, and then for dinner (since I was burning anyway) I made some Chili Rellanos (Hatch style)
We enjoyed the visit and hope to see ya'll again soon.

Fantastic! I'm glad you dehydrated your tomato skins. Check out Sci's blog, she came up with the idea on the tomato powder.
