Final Day To Register Give - Away, Craigslist Find, Asparagus, Sail, Bird Feeder, & BBQ

Don’t forget to register for the give-away I’m sponsoring, this is the last night to register.  Go here and register.

This past winter I found two night stands on Craigslist.  The woman selling these wanted $40.00 for both of them.  I offered her $30.00; she accepted my offer but didn’t have change for my two twenties.   The woman wanted me to follow her husband several miles to a local convenience store for change.  My response to the young lady, “well I really don’t need them that bad” (in actuality I had no intention of following a stranger to another location).  And for the heck of it, I asked would you take $20.00 for both.  Within a heart beat the young lady jumped on my offer.  I gave her the $20.00, loaded the night stands in my truck, and left with a smile on my face.   My plan was to clean both of these up and paint them to match the dressers in the master bedroom.

Bulldog Man wanted me to wait until it was nice and dry out before sanding, cleaning, and painting the night stands.  It’s that time, I’ve pulled both night stands out to the back porch, and started to sand them down.  I need to scrape the inside of each drawer with a razor and then wipe down everything really good before painting.  In the next several days I will start painting these night stands, I hope they come out okay; at least good enough to take pictures and post the final product on my blog.  Wish me luck!!!

While watering the garden this evening I noticed several asparagus stems popping up from the ground.  I wasn’t expecting any vegetable until next year this time frame.  Boy was I surprised!!!

Several of my blogger friends ask me to post pictures of the sail we hung to help with reducing the sun and heat on the porch.  Here it is; we found it at Home Depot for $26 and change.  In time the wrinkles will go away.  I’ve noticed a difference on the patio immediately after hanging it.

We also hung a hummingbird feeder, two weeks ago was the first time I had seen a hummingbird where we live.  Now that I know they’re in the area, I want to be able to attract many more. Bulldog Man and I invested in a glass feeder and I mixed up a recipe of sweetened water for them (1 part sugar to 4 parts water; boil water 1 – 2 minutes once sugar has dissolved, take off burner, let water cool, and then place in feeder).

I have several BBQ’s to go to this weekend, next week I will tell you about them; do you have plans for the weekend?

  1. Great deal on the nightstands and I am looking forward to seeing the finished product!

We have lots of hummingbirds around here and I usually hang feeders for them as well...I love seeing them come to the feeders.

No plans at all here this weekend other than finishing up a few projects we have started...one of which is shoveling rocks from in front of the hen house...

Have fun and talk to ya next!

    1. HL,

I thought so, I just hope I don't mess them up to bad, lol.

This was the first time I saw one here in our area since we moved to this part of Oklahoma.

      Thanks you too!

  3. When the whoa-man and I have some time together, we'll wander the area's garage sales. We found a nightstand very similar to these but, the legs had been cut off.

I saw a hummingbird in the front yard several years ago, hung a feeder and have never seen one, since. ;)

    1. B,

Thank you, I thought it was a great score too.

The sail helps cool down areas of the porch and it provides a little privacy.

      You too my friend :-)

  5. Sandy,

Great find on the night stands. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

We have thought about a sail shade but worry about the wind turning it into a real sail.

    1. DFW,

Thank you, I hope the end result turns out good because everyone wants to see them :-)

If you tie the sail down it should hold up well.

  6. Hi Sandy, sure looks like some nice night stands! Can't wait to see what you do with them. Wow, your asparagus is looking good. I bet you couldn't wait to taste it. Love your sail that it's s really neat idea. We get some hummingbirds here, too. And I love the fact that we can make the food for them. They always seem to excite me when I see one. Something about them just seems so enchanting! Hope you all are doing great!! Evening looksso great!
    Blessings,
    Susie

    1. Susie,

Thank you, I thought they had good bones just needed to clean them up a little and paint them.

This is a first for me with asparagus, I actually thought I would have to wait a year or two before having any true vegetable.

Every one is well here, I hope you and yours are well?

Humming birds are amazing, I would love to have their energy.

  7. I think those two night stands are going to be very attractive when you get done with them. A very classic, attractive style.

Our hummingbirds usually arrive around the 15th of May but were a couple of weeks late this year, probably because of our very cold spring and early summer. But now they are dive bombing the two feeders every day.

Trying to get things ready this weekend of relatives (9 of them!) coming for a visit next week.

Thank you! You have more confidence in me than I do on the night stands, lol......

Enjoy your company and don't work to hard this weekend.
