I returned home to watch over my Dad for a couple of days while my sister was out of town.

These are pictures of a sunset from my parents back porch in Texas on Tuesday evening.    Here’s an update on my Dad’s cancer status.  Dad has completed his 2nd chemo treatment and was scheduled to complete the third, when his Oncologist suggested he wait one week.  Chemo has a tendency of hitting you hard, making you extremely tired, and not want to do much of anything but sleep.  The Oncologist could see that Dad was exhausted, and all of the blood tests indicate Dad is doing well.  So the brief pause will only help my Dad gain some well deserved rest.
Dad worked really hard with the physical therapist while I was with him and he ate very well for being so sick.  The night before I left my parents’ house, I said my goodbyes to my sister (who came home) and Mom.  Then I went into my parents’ bedroom and sat on the bed next to my Dad and chatted for some time. I wanted to make sure he understood that I was so proud of how hard he worked that day with the physical therapist, and how much I loved him, before heading out in the morning.  I tend to hit the road early in the morning before anyone was up.

Finally, as I was driving home it started to storm on the highway as I near the Oklahoma state line.

  2. Sandy,

Hope your Dad continues to do well. Nutrition for a cancer patient is so very important. Glad he's eating well.

  4. So glad to hear you were able to spend more precious time with your Dad. Sounds like he has a great DR that thinks of the patients quality of life as well as medically. Very fortunate in a tough situation. Keeping you in my prayers
BTW, I found Heathers blog yesterday morning and wondered if she followed any on my blog roll!

    1. Katie,

I love my Dad's doctor, in fact all of them from the neurosurgeon to the oncologist. They look out for the patient, no the drug companies.

Dad was very happy to see me, as I was with him.

Heather is a real neat lady, I look forward to reading more of her posts.

  5. Sandy, I truly hope Oklahoma has seen the last of the storms and everyone can begin picking up the pieces of their lives. It is good that your Dad is getting a much deserved brake from the treatments and he is always in my prayers.

    1. Sweet Jane,

I don't think we've seen the last of tornadoes, the weather has started to turn toward summer. Temperatures will later this week peak to high 90's.

Yes, Dad needs a break. The chemo has pretty much wiped him out. He had no strength to get himself up or walk. My sister talked with me today, not doing the chemo treatment this week he's improved in his strength and can get out of bed and his chair very well.

I'm heading back to Texas tomorrow, my sister has to fly out again. I need to write you updates soon, I promise. Thank you for being a great friend to me and my Dad.
