Saturday morning, Bulldog Man was going to cut the grass when the lawnmower decided it didn’t want to cooperate; it kept stalling.  Bulldog Man went into town to purchase a new filter, spark plugs, and new gas, figuring the gas we stored was old and not the greatest; it was time for some new stuff.  I stayed outside to see if my husband needed another pair of hands to assist with holding the parts while working on the lawnmower.  It’s always good to have a second pair of hands around.  After a while, I went inside the house to get several drinks to cool down since it was extremely warm.  Instead of going through our front door, I decided to use the pass-through door between the garage and kitchen.  Now this door sticks occasionally, requiring a slight push to get it open; little did I know our dog, Bug, decided to lie up against the door (she never lays by any of the doors in the house).  Bug is an 8 pound little Chihuahua; she’s the cutest little thing.  Apparently she decided to lie up against the door because she knew we were working in the garage.  When the door flew open, it caught her paw under the door, she yelped so loud it caused my heart to drop.  Her paw was between the threshold and the actual door.  This caused the tendon in her paw to rip along with the webbing between two pads.   There was a large amount of blood dripping from her paw.  I immediately picked her up and held on to the paw with a little pressure to stop the bleeding, wrapped her in a towel, and Bulldog Man and I rushed her to the emergency veterinarian in town.  The Vet took Bug in immediately, sedated her, took x-rays noticed no broken bones, and he knew immediately she needed to be looked at further to see about the tendon.  The Vet sewed the tendon and repaired the webbing between her paw pads.  He also kept her over night, pumping pain meds and antibiotics into her.  The next morning, we went to pick her up.  The Vet gave us a handful of antibiotics and pain meds to take home with us.  The Vet felt she would heal properly on her own over time and won’t need the detailed surgery as they first thought.

Talk about feeling so guilty, I love this little dog, and was so sick after this happened.

When we brought her home, she was out of it a bit because she was sedated to fix her up.  Now she’s running around like nothing happened, and wants that damned boot off her foot!

    1. Carolyn,

She was in so much pain initially, and I felt so bad.
Now she walks around with attitude and shakes that bootie looking at me like mom get this damn thing off of me before I pull it off myself.

  2. Oh Sandy...I know you were just sick over injuring your fur baby even though it was an accident. Animals heal quickly and in another week or so Bug will have no lasting memory of her ordeal.

    1. Mamma Bear,
I'm still sick over it. I know animals heal very fast. She had laser work on her paw today, it's suppose to help it heal faster.

  4. So scary when your fur babies get hurt. I am a nut when it comes to my cats. One gets hurt and I blubber like a baby. Glad she is doing good though. Did you and the hubby get the lawnmower going finally? hehe

    1. Heather,

I'm a nut over all my animals, they deserved to be 100 percent spoiled. Not hurting at all! We went to the Vet today for follow up, her paw is healing.

Yes, the lawnmower is now working. Our son volunteered to cut the entire property. It's nice having a break from cutting the grass.

Poor lady. It's kinda like closing your child's hand in a car door-an accident, but you just want to slap yourself silly!
I'm sure he'll heal quickly, Sandy.

  6. Oh my, I'm so sorry! I stepped on a cats paw once years ago and broke it's little foot. I was heartbroken. In no time he was running around like nothing ever happened. I on the other hand took longer to heal, ha.

Glad all is well in the end. The best part? She'll love you just like always. :-)

If it's not one thing it's another. There's always something going on. I'm still heartbroken, Bug is such a sweet little one.

Yes, Bug is a little lover.

    1. Sweet Kymber,

It's hard not feeling guilty, I opened the door. I know it was not intentional but I still opened the door. I reacted as fast as I could and she was taken care of by a Vet who treats animals like his own.

Thank you, sending love and hugs your way to you and Jam.

  9. Did you hear ME yelp when reading the description of what happened to little Bug? Ooooh, owie, owie! Makes me cringe just thinking about it. I once caught my bare heel between a slamming door and door frame. No real damage done, but dang!, that hurt! And with our animals, they can't reasonably understand what happened to them. Thankfully, it sounds as if she got just the proper care and isn't suffering in the least now. (If we can just get you to forget the trauma!) 'Twasn't your "fault" at all, you know.

P.S. Your hubby and mine were both fighting with recalcitrant lawn mowers yesterday apparently. Good thing we've got handy guys who know how to repair such!

    1. Mama Pea,

You should have heard me yell!!!! Yes, Bug was rushed to the Vet for urgent care and they kept her over night to observe her after the procedure. I know it's not my fault but I still feel bad.

Yes, I believe we both have lawnmowers from hell!!!! But we have handy guys and they can get these monsters working. Bulldog Man was able to get that lawnmower working the next day.

  10. Poor Sweet Bug !
Sandy, sometimes as much as we love our fur babies, they get hurt accidentally. Bug knows you love him and that sometimes there are accidents. They are such wonderful creatures, aren't they ?

Hey there lady! Yes poor bug :-(
I know accidents happen and I try to not have them especially when involving my animals.

Dogs are wonderful creatures, if I could I would own all kinds.
