Rain Dance - Farmers Market - Salsa - Watermelon - Give-Away

L The rain is all around us…….not over us!!!   Kymber, you need to start dancing girlfriend!!!!! Bahahahaha!!!!!
In town, the Farmers’ Market is usually up and running on Wednesdays and Saturdays in this small town.  I decided to hop in the truck and drive on over to see what’s new and available from the local farmers.
I picked up some beautiful peaches and plan on making a homemade peach cobbler later this week. I will post the recipe and pictures when I make it.  Bulldog Man loves cobbler…..peach, blackberry, cherry….it doesn’t matter.  Shoot, just hurry up and make the cobbler.  One of the farmers had baby yellow neck squash that looked great, so I picked up a couple of pounds.  I found some tomatoes, jalapenos and a couple of onions.  I picked up enough to make a few pints of salsa. I even used several of the green peppers from my garden.

Since I don’t have a good recipe on hand for salsa, I borrowed Robin’s recipe from The Garden of Eden blog.  Please checkout this recipe http://cordarogarden.blogspot.com/2010/07/canning-salsa-recipe.html, it’s delicious and makes exactly 3 pints. I did modified the recipe by adding 1/2 cup of cilantro.

On the way back from the Farmers’ Market, I stopped by this building along side of the roadway that had a water wheel and decided to take a picture and share it with you.  The place is amazing, it’s so relaxing; it makes you want to get out of your vehicle and walk around the water and wooded area on the property.  There was one thing that stopped me from doing just that. It was a sign that stated “No Trespassing”.

There is one thing I love on these hot days and nights, it’s ice cold, naturally sweet watermelon. This year, I did not plant watermelon in my garden and that’s because the watermelon we planted last year just didn’t do good.  So we went on a mission to find a good watermelon that doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg to purchase.  Over the weekend, Bulldog Man and I went to Wal-Mart and came across watermelons from Texas.  We took a chance and bought one.  The price was reasonable, compared to previous years.  I washed the watermelon down and placed it in the refrigerator for two days and then sliced that baby.  OMG…….talk about sweet and ice cold. I would share with ya’ll but you’re just too darn far away.  So to be nice, I’ve taken a few pictures for you to enjoy.  I can’t seem to find away to make the pictures smell delicious like the actual melon, (Evil Grin!).  You know like scratch and sniff…….LOL.

Remember to register for the Hand Crack Apple Peeler Give-Away.  There’s only two days left to register.

What are you doing to keep yourself cool from this heat?

  1. Oh, what a tease you are with that delicious crisp melon !:) I haven't bought any YET. Waiting for some fairly local melons from Hermiston, Oregon .. they are the best by far for our area. I remember learning a Native American rain dance from elementary school ... want me to teach you ;) I do hope you get a direct 'hit' with the rain.

Sorry, I was just craving watermelon for sometime now and I just had to go for it :-)
Hopefully watermelon from Hermiston, OR will be out soon to sell. Did you really learn the rain dance? Sure, I would love to learn :-)

    1. Sweet Kymber, Thanks for the dancing, the clouds we're building tonight (you could see a storm getting ready to come), when the winds blew the clouds east of us. So the eastern part of our state and probably Arkansas will get some good rain. I tried growing watermelon last year and well it just didn't grow well (I think it was too hot). I hope your watermelon seeds sprout and grow for you. Have a great evening and give Jambaloney a hug.
      Your Friend,
      Sandy

  3. I make a homemade salsa that'll knock your socks off. It lethal to all children, limp wristed men and some women. Take me at least an hour to build and must be refrigerated overnight, after which a chip will stand erect when dipped. Shame I can't share....

    1. Stephen, You tease you!!!! Can't share :-P
Do you use any green chiles in it? If it knocks your socks off, I would say you use all kinds of hot peppers. Does Sweet Wife eat your salsa?

  4. Love salsa. Canned some this last week with Mrs. Wages "Hot" salsa mix. It was Waayy too hot. Had to add more tomatoes. It is labeled "HOT" on the lids. Love watermelon and haven't had any yet this summer :(

Maybe on the days that we are singing, "Rain, rain, go away, come again another day, Little Johnny wants to play," we need to be more specific on which days we want the rain to come.

    1. There is nothing better than homemade salsa :-)
Have you tried spicing the salsa yourself? This way you can control the heat. Yes, we need to decide when we want and don't want the rain. Right now, we need rain. Have a great day!

  5. What a peaceful spot the mill apears to be, Wouldn't you like to spend an hour back in time and see all the activitiy there would have been? Talk to some of the people coming and going. I look at places like this and wonder about the lives they led.

Your farmers market looks wonderful! Ours is small but generally has a great selection.

I think Ineed some watermellon now!
