Face Zit

While standing in line at the post office, a woman in front of me was attempting to seal a package, and needed a little help holding the box closed while she worked the tape.  Since I was right there in line, I offered to help.  She was returning a product, I won’t say the name of it; however, I will mention the product was designed to help control acne and get rid of blemishes on your face.    She wasn’t happy with the results or the product.

Since the line was long, and we both had plenty of time ahead of us, a conversation ensued.  This young woman asked me what I use on my face to have such a clear and beautiful complexion.  Of course I giggled, not expecting such a question.  I told her I use all natural products, I don’t buy any of the gimmicks advertised on the television, radio, or computer for cleaning my face.  I also use this natural process to help get rid of pimples and dark spots on my face.  She then proceeded to ask me what natural products I use, and if I could give her an example.

I mentioned to her how I take care of my face.  I take a thin wash cloth (texture of a nice soft cotton diaper or cotton circles), lay it down, pour a little organic lemon juice on the cotton cloth, then I dip the wet cloth in a small bowl of organic sugar, splash warm water on my face and gently place the cloth lined with lemon juice and sugar, on my face.  In a circular motion, I gently massage my face with the cloth, making sure to massage my cheeks, sides of face, forehead, nose, and chin (the T section) keep the lemon juice and sugar away from your eyes.   Keep rubbing your face for about 60 seconds or so (you will notice the cloth will show dirt when you’re done massaging your face), then I thoroughly rinse my face with warm water, and pat it dry with a towel.   You’ll notice your face will be nice and soft.

I wash my face every evening using this process just before bed. I never use any commercial soap on my face because it’s a sensitive area, it causes my skin to dry out and form bright red spots (a reaction).

Here’s a cute video I found on You Tube by Kandee Johnson called, “The Skin Doctor: LEMON TRICK”.  This video explains the process of washing your face with the organic lemon and sugar.  When I found Kandee’s video years ago, I knew this process would work. I started the process immediately, and my face is totally clear of blemishes, and nice and soft.

In the morning, I take warm water and splash it several times on my face to help clear the cob webs out, LOL…….then I moisturize my face with almond goats milk lotion created by Michaele, a friend of mine.  Check out Michaele’s blog Sprout ‘N’ Wings Farm, it’s a great blog where she talks about her family, her animals, and her business called Sisters Five Soap & Lotion Works; where you can find awesome lotions, soaps, body butters, and lotion bars.

Finally, I would like to thank my good friend, Gail (her blog At The Farm go check out her blog…..NOW) for introducing me to Sisters Five Soap & Lotion Works.  Last year, Gail surprised me with a gift of this awesome soap and lotion.   Since then, I continue to order my soaps and lotions from Michaele.

Do you have a ritual for cleaning the grunge off of your face?

  1. Sandy,

No I don't. I just wash w/Ivory soap each night & apply store bought lotion. I really want to switch. I'll definitely look into buying some from Michaele. Thanks for the recommendation.

    1. PP,

Age gets rid of all kinds of things.
Until you have hormonal issues, then it produces things you don't want......like pimples.

Men usually don't have the issues women have.

  3. Thank you, Sandy!

I am hooked on Michaele's soap and lotions. After gifting the soap last year to family they now think I keep the supply for them. Gonna have to find a new hiding place!

We should all think about more natural solutions for general care and medicine. I'm a believer in "the old ways".

    1. Gail,

      YW Girlfriend!!!!

Michaele's soap and lotions are amazing. I agree, find a better hiding place so family can't find your stash :-)

Natural solutions are so much better for the body. Everyone should rely on the old fashion ways for general care and medicine it's healthier, and won't cost you as much money.

  4. Hey Gurlie!
Thats awesome, thank you so much for sharing. Will def. give it a try. and it seems so inexpensive. I hate buying expenisve skin treatments that just dry out my skin.
I have also read that apple cider vinegar works well with roseacea and skin redness..

    hugs to you all...

    1. JUGM,

YW!!!! It's very inexpensive and works well. Apple cider vinegar works for many things medicinally, and for cleaning. The problem with apple cider vinegar, some people react to it (allergies).

    1. Mary Ann,

Give it a shot, try it for a week and see how your skin feels. Be careful, don't scrub your face just massage it with the sugar and lemon juice.
      I recommend using Michaele's products 100 %.

    1. Harry,

Most men use just soap and water. My husband's the same way.
You would be surprised how much dirt is on a persons face. The sugar and lemon help to clean out those large pores men usually find on our around their nose.

If a person is a C-Pap or Bi-Pap machine user, this process will clean your face, and help elevate the problem of losing air around your mask. A clean face leads to a good seal.

  7. I'm finding that the older I get, the less my skin cooperates, LOL. Great post Sandy. I've always like Burts Bees products but am hoping to continue experimenting on making more of my own with easier to find ingredients. Your routine is a keeper.
