Bill SB 124............Give Me A Break!!!!!

A Proposal by Senator Maria Chappelle Nadel, for Missouri Gun Owners

SB 124 – This act creates the offense of failing to stop illegal firearm possession. A person commits the offense if he or she is the parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18, he or she knows the child possesses a firearm in violation of the law, and he or she fails to stop the possession or report it to law enforcement.

The offense is a Class A misdemeanor unless death or injury results from the firearm possession in which case it is a Class D felony.

This act also creates the offense of negligent storage of a firearm. A parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 commits the offense by recklessly storing or leaving a firearm in a manner that is likely to result in the child accessing the firearm if the child obtains access to the firearm and unlawfully carries it to school, kills or injures another person with it, or commits a crime with it.

A firearm that is in a secure location or locked is not considered to be recklessly stored or left in a manner likely to result in the child accessing the firearm.

The offense is a Class A misdemeanor unless the child kills or injures another person in which case it is a Class D felony.

The parent or guardian of a child injured or killed by a firearm may only be prosecuted for negligent storage of a firearm if he or she was grossly negligent.

This act requires a parent or guardian to notify a school district, or the governing body of a private or charter school, that he or she owns a firearm within 30 days of enrolling the child in school or becoming the owner of a firearm.

The written notification only needs to include the names of the parent and any child attending the school and the fact that the parent owns a firearm.

A person only needs to send one written notification if he or she has multiple children attending the school or becomes the owner of additional firearms. Any time a new child is enrolled in a school the parent or guardian must send an updated notification with the new child’s name.

Failure to notify the school under this act is an infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $100. If a person is found guilty of negligent storage of a firearm and has failed to notify the school of firearm ownership, the person must be fined $1,000 in addition to any other penalties authorized by law.

Working On Goals - Buckets - Knife - Give-Away

I’ve been working on some of the goals I set for 2013.
I started working with our dog Bug (the new rescue puppy).  The bell I placed on the back door entices her (remember the bell is there to let me know when she needs to go out).  She loves to just touch it and run away.   I figured give her a little time, and she will be ringing that bell, and driving me crazy in the process.  Bug has an insecurity issue, she likes to whine (remember she was a rescue dog, and had a hard life).  She starts whining and shaking when she can’t physically see me.  I know resolving this problem is going to take time, which I have plenty of.
Bug, tired after working with her

Then it was time to start working on several of the overgrown closets in the house.  This one is one of two hall closets, it generally holds extra pillows, blankets, linens, first aid kits, toilet paper (not all, only one container and a few loose rolls), heating pads, blood pressure cuff and some (not all) extra toiletry supplies.  As you can see it’s a disaster, everyone just grabs what they need, and when they return the item they don’t place it back where it was found.
I’m embarrassed……………..here’s the before picture.

And here’s the after picture.

I’ve pulled out all the pillows, a total of 10, and saved only two.  Those two were placed inside a large storage bag in the bottom right of the closet.  Of course, I have two travel bags in the lower part of the closet for easy access (being that we don’t have a lot of storage closets in this house).  I’ve placed all the liquid soap, shampoos and conditioners in a large plastic bin and labeled them.  Then it was on to placing the bar soap in another container, and the extra razors in another.  I placed a shelving type unit inside the closet side ways to hold the heating pads, blood pressure cuff, and minor bathroom electronics.  The top shelf holds linens, and blankets in large Ziploc storage bags.  I pulled out all the extra boxes of bandages and band aids stored in the closet and placed different size bandages and band aids in three first aid kits. By doing this, I eliminated 8 boxes of bandages and 3 boxes of band aids sitting on the shelves.  ****Note to all Blogger friends, please check your first aid kits to make sure your items haven’t expired!!!
Next on my agenda, tackle the closet by the front door in the foyer.

On my last trip into town, I picked up several more free food grade buckets. This time the buckets are the small ones, I won’t complain, especially since they’re freeJ.   I decided to scrub the buckets outside and let them dry in the sun since it turned out to be a beautiful day. When I decide to use these buckets, I will wash them one more time.

This section of my post I dedicate to Stephen and Matt. I couldn’t resist, I had to get in on the knife sharing post, lol.  Here’s one of my favorite knives, it’s a Kershaw 1070 Echo AUSSA by Ken Onion.

On A Mission

Our dog, Bug, decided to help herself to the pantry shelf, remove the dog treat bag and return to the living room couch in hopes of opening up the bag.  Sneaky little thing!!!

Carolyn, I didn’t train her to do this.  She did this on her own accord.

Notice the other dog, Beans waiting to see if Bug got the bag open.

Talk about a find!  I was on my way into town when I came across a sign for a yard sale.

I drove past the home with the sale when I saw something of interest, and turned around to check it out. There were some beautiful leather chairs for sale.  Oh yes, this would have been a great score, but when I further investigated, the chairs weren’t worth the price.  I continued to walk around and there it was………………. Are you ready to hear????
5 boxes of canning jars, totaling 45 jars (41 quart jars and 4 gallon jars). When I asked the couple what the price was for the 5 boxes of jars, the response was 25 cents a jar; without hesitation, I bought all 5 boxes!!!!! SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Training Bug is a goal set for 2013.  I have this crazy idea, now that I’ve potty trained the pup.  Our pup runs fast past the back door, and over to you if you’re sitting in the lodge to let you know she wants out of the house to do her business.  But what if you’re not sitting in the lodge; and you’re somewhere else in the house?  My thought; hang a bell attached to a rope on the back door. When the pup has to go outside, she rings the bell.

The last time I went to the pet store to pickup dog food, I wandered into the training section and found exactly what I was looking for.  A cord with a bell to attached to the door knob; then I looked at the price and thought, that’s crazy: $29.00.  No Way!!!!  I refused to pay $29.00 for a cord attached to a bell.   I went to the local craft store and they were out of bells.  So I wandered into a sporting goods store and they had a bell, they called it a bear bell, for $3.00.  I went ahead and snatched it up, took the bag off the bell (bag used to silence the bell).  Then I stole borrowed some paracord from Bulldog Man.   Cut it into three pieces, braided it, and fed the bell loop through the paracord and tied a knot at the very top.  All I needed to do then was just hook the cord over the door knob and viola’……..I have a training bell for my pup, Bug. :-)

On The Road Again

Sunset Driving 70+ MPH Toward Texas
Friday night Bulldog Man, Tank and I drove down to Texas to check on my Dad, and help clear / clean up damage from the last storm that blew through.  Several trees fell down over the rear fence on my parent’s property.  Bulldog Man loaded our truck up with his tools and chain saw.  Come Saturday morning, Bulldog Man, and I cut the trees into pieces and stacked the wood against the back fence for future burning.

Afterwards we headed to the rehabilitative hospital in Ft. Worth to have lunch with my Dad.  The Texas Rehabilitative Hospital is training Dad how to walk, move, bend down and get up without hurting himself because he has all of this hardware surgically implanted in his lower back.  After Dad comes home, he will be meeting with the Orthopedic Oncologist, and his Internist to determine the next steps in his medical plan.

Sunday morning before heading back home to Oklahoma, we stopped by the hospital to visit and say good bye.

 In The Truck Driving Home
Monday was Bulldog Man’s Birthday, Tank and I took him to the casino and celebrated his birthday with a nice dinner, and a little cash to play the slot machines.  Bulldog Man ended up not winning a thing but had a great time.  Our son, Tank came back winning $275.00.  We made our dinner an early dinner because we really didn’t want to be out on the roads with the weather changing, and the drunk drivers on the road.  We celebrated our New Year’s by going to bed early, and sleeping in the next day.  Yay, 2013 has rolled in, now we get to look forward to preparing our taxes L

Tuesday, Bulldog Man and I needed to get some groceries; being out of town we hadn’t a chance to get groceries.  I really wanted to try this recipe I found on the computer for enchiladas and I needed a few things.

Extra Enchiladas
Half Tray Left - More For Tomorrow!!!!
The recipe was found here.  Bulldog Man really like the enchiladas and rates them with 4 Paws!!!
