Yard Work - Tool - Pots - Thank You Kymber :-)

4:45 AM was the start to a busy day, and it’s not even over yet.  I decided the property needed mowing before it turned into a jungle.  The grass has been growing crazy with all the rain we’ve had.  It took me most of the morning to get the grass cut (boy did I get my exercise).  Then I pulled out my grass whip and whipped around the entire house, all the fencing, and driveway and around areas I couldn’t reach with the lawn mower.  Since Bulldog Man was at work and hadn’t been feeling well lately dealing with migraines, I decided I would tackle this pile of tree branches we cut a while back. The branches needed moving from west side of the house to the far end of the property for removal.  We’ve been making several big piles of branches, trees and debris in one area of the property that’s never really used, for removal at a later date.  I gently pulled (making sure there were no snakes, spiders and scorpions) each large branch and placed them in the wheelbarrow, a mile high and a mile long (exaggerated a bit). Now, I know the branches won’t fit in the wheelbarrow because of the size; I just needed something to help me move (drag) them.  As I rolled the wheelbarrow across the property the branches were moving to the right, then the left, then forward courtesy of the Oklahoma winds.  I did this four times, back and forth. There is nothing funnier then fighting moving branches and steering a wheelbarrow at the same time.  I must have looked like a crazy woman; thank God no one was around to see me.
When Bulldog man came home he was feeling a little better, and decided to help me pull out the remaining Bibb lettuce and plant some Kale in its place.  We used a new hoe we had bought at the Farmer’s Market to pullout roots and straighten up the garden box before planting the Kale seeds.  The hoe was made by the Oklahoma State University’s Coop Extension, and is made out of tractor blades that were extremely sharp.  Bulldog Man bought the hoe for me and I was happy to have it to add to my garden tool collection and I was also happy to support the university.

This hoe is extremely sharp

We put together this bird netting to prevent the birds from eating all the plants in pots.  I have more pots to add under the netting but wanted to take a picture to post on the blog.

Now here’s my special plant I picked up today.  It’s special because a sweet friend of mine, Kymber, suggested I make some sage tea (2 -3 leaves of fresh sage, bruise the leaves with fingers or spoon and pour boiling hot water, let steep for 5 minutes and drink)  to help me sleep and deal with some of my hormone symptoms. I’ve been drinking this tea for over a week, and I see a big difference.  My plans for this sage plant is to transplant it in a pot, and place it next to my back door for quick and easy access when I need leaves for my tea each night.

  1. wow - you sure had a busy day!!! i know exactly what you mean by trying to steer a wheelbarrow loaded with branches AND in the wind - bahahahah! your hoe is awesome! so is your netting for the pots. do you have problems with birds getting at what is in your pots? as for the sage plant - put it in a nice big pot as if you take good care of it, it will grow up and out into a woody bush by next year. you can also do cuttings and make a couple of plants when it is big enough. we love our sage tea around here and it has many medicinal qualities!
maybe try to not do so much work today - you are making me tired and i haven't even started my work - bahahahahha!

    your friend,
    kymber

    1. Good Morning Kymber, I would have replied to this post earlier but I couldn't get the comb webbs out of my eyes. With all the work done yesterday and my sage tea, I slept sound last night.
This year it seems the birds are targetting my pots and raised garden beds. They love celery, herbs, tomatoes, spinach and broccol rabe. We had no choice but to cover the pots and garden where soft leafy vegetables grow. Oh yes Ma'am, I plan on potting my sage plant in a nice big pot. I will slow down a little today, in fact I think I will sneak a little nap early this morning :-)

  3. MMasse, I will mention it to him. We will have to see if this Feverfew leaf reacts to all the other meds he's on. I appreciate the information on Feverfew leaf and I will definitely check it out. If he can take it, and it works, I will be a very....very happy wife, :-) Thanks!

My gosh you've been busy. How rewarding though to see all that you've accomplished!
That is good to know about the attributes of the sage plant-I need to try the tea.
And I love the idea of the hoe made from recyled farm parts!

    1. Kimberly, It is rewarding to be able to get things done. Some days though, I think to myself....girl you need to slow down. There are days I slow down, and other days, I just keep on going (kind of like the energizer bunny with some extra pounds)LOL. I love new things made out of recycled things. Don't work to hard today and stay warm :-)
